Tanks who randomly leave RNDs, why?

I recently queued for an rnd to test out my dps mag sorcerer (normally I play healer). The moment we all get teleported into the dungeon, the tank leaves well before we even get to the first boss. I understand if they leave out of frustration if we wipe over and over again (not saying I endorse this, but I understand, big difference there), but this guy left before I event accepted the dungeon quest.

Knowing how bad queue times are for dps players I had to slot a taunt and pretty much play as a makeshift tank, till the group leader found a replacement, which didn't happen till the final boss. I didn't get to test out my dps build -_-

Tanks who leave before we even fight the first boss, knowing damn well dlc dungs are impossible without a tank, why are you like this?

I am not one of these people but it's usually that they're either a fake tank and know they can't fake this dungeon or its a dungeon they don't want to do (so many people insta-leave Lair of Maarselok).

    Which dungeon was it?

Sometimes people will queue in as a fake tank and quit if they think they can't handle it.
Sometimes people can't stand the dungeon. This would happen when I was grinding maarselok for z'en's.

I quit a random dungeon pug I was tanking for yesterday because someome was beelining to the boss and I do not prefer to be stuck in combat the entire run. If your tank said "yeah no gg" before quitting, it was me. ;)

I've only done it once before the rnd, and that was for an achievement to unlock a room in the Hall of the Champions. not my favourite dungeon IMO but not the worst either 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yep, that'd do it. People consider it a slog because of just how much running there is and how many unskippable wait phases the bosses have. I love LoM but even I can understand why it has the reputation it does.

I've done this for Black Gem Foundry. I was queuing random vet. Usually I'd be ok giving a dlc dungeon a good faith try, but this one dungeon I really don't like tanking. So I instantly left. Sorry, but my sanity is more important.

LoM drops Azureblight. Before the nerfs to it not so long ago it was the go to DD set for trials and eng-game. People ran it constantly - and I do mean ran because it is less dungeon and more running simulator.

That lead to a lot of burnout on the dungeon. It's the longest dungeon in game, and until recently was the 3rd longest piece of content (along with several trials). People avoid it like the plague these days.

Other dungeons are more difficult but the nature of LoM makes it duller. The non-boss boss fight, is just glorified trash mob killing.

All that said, dropping out of an RND just because it is LoM (or as my friend calls it BSM - Blue Spider Mountain) is a big frowny face from me.

Most probably that was not a tank, and that player also knew well the marked above.
    That is the main reason.
Also the dungeon length might have an effect.

It's totally possible to do normal LoM with a dps tank. It's just that very few people want to.

As ZOS is collecting feedback and addressing longstanding issues, I think this would be very good data to look at. Which dungeons have the most people insta-leaving? This is a clear indication of which the community does not like. Maybe they got a phone call, or someone at the door. It happens. But most likely they are noping out of the dungeon to go do something else.

The data is the best source, but my own experience is that players dislike:

    1) Immunity phases

    2) Long trash sections between boss fights

    3) Immunity phases

    4) Mechanics that greatly favor being in voice chat for coordination, especially if someone is new to the dungeon

    5) Immunity phases

    6) Especially long dungeons

    7) Immunity phases

And, of course, also immunity phases.

And recent dungeons seem to have more of these disliked features, not less. Trials, too. I would love to see another mini-trial like AS or Cloudrest. No fluff, just the substance.

Heh. When I read your opening, I was also about to say, let me guess - Maarselok?

Maarselok is by far the worst for this. It's a miracle if tank stays. Moongrave is another where people leave immediately after porting in.

And then due to 1st boss, I see people leave Graven Deep and Scrivener right in the beginning. Even MoS sometimes.

I think it is mainly about the dps. I always play heal, but I noticed this in some "weaker" groups that the tanks felft.

Always wondering about this. (or they are fake and leave when DLC is the random)

As most have said most likely a Fake Tank or just one of those dungeons that are long or rub someone the wrong way for whatever reason. There are just a few that the deserter flag is shorter than running the dungeon with a great group.

As my sticker books fills I find myself more willing to bite the bullet on some dungeons but the group will get very little leeway to struggle before I decide enough is enough on Vet. For normal groups I will just post lets see how we do and if we get another tank then great and start plugging away 90% of the time 3 is enough.

There’s also a boss in Selene’s Web that does backflips. I question that design decision every time I tank him.

Theoretically, immunity phases are useful to stop full burns. Realistically, this makes for a very frustrating experience. Mechanic overwhelm/mechanics not lining up well should be the deterrent for full burning. Works in the short term and once the fight inevitably is full burnable, it isn’t frustrating.

They may have seen the group dps was below what a smooth/fun run would require and noped out. I do that as a tank, healer or dps.

Some dungeons kind of suck, like banished cells 2 with 20k group dps. Some have a lot of trash packs too, kind of need to be able to nuke them down.

    Hi OP,

I've maintained a DK Tank for many years (in one form or another) and have really exceled at 4 man runs, both Dungeons and Trials. Most of the time, when running dailies or randoms or whatever I just run whatever dungeon I end up with. That said, sometimes I will quit because there is either an irl issue that's come up, or the dungeon is not the right one and I have to leave.

People leaving isn't always personal. As far as people doing weird things, taking it on themselves to just tank and dps out of the gate, ie... fake tanks, I cannot say. I've always ran a tank; I've always successfully included a DPS package with my Tank. So, I don't waste anyone's time, including mine. :) And believe it or not, even during the best of times, people still complain.

I can sympathize with your complaint but the other side of this is some have a very closed-minded view of the tank concept. If I'm able to do something extra and not compromise my role, they don't like it. The thing is there's experience and then there's expertise. Someone who possess both can do some pretty amazing things. But then you have those haters who can't handle that. When I've taken time to explain it, they understand, but grudgingly accept this point of view.

But I don't have time to explain everything I do. The results speak for themselves. Some people get mad when Tanks leave, others get mad when they stay. And they get even madder when we win because they have no excuse for doing less.

If a player quits as soon as they get into a dungeon, it's either a lack of talent or lack of interest in doing that particular dungeon.

I think that insta-quit is less troublesome if you're a DD, but as a healer or tank it's a crappy thing to do to the remaining group members. I only tend to quit groups when it's clear that they're not listening to advice and simply aren't able to get the dungeon cleared whatever I do to support. Usually that's vet DLCs though. If I roll a random dungeon, I take whatever I end up with :D The only time my healer has insta-quit was when we started and then my dog choked on something. She was fine, but sometimes RL stuff happens too.

It does definitely help if you're a DD and have a group heal or taunt you can slot if you need to help with support though. Even just having a DD build that's better for survival helps if you get a fake or insta-quit support. I try and have a few builds on me so I can adapt and potentially cover for a fake support, or just add a cross heal to take the pressure off a healer eg in a vet DLC run.

To add to this, I usually play a parse tank in random normals, but when I would DD and the tank would quit or was fake, I would just slot a taunt. If one can block heavies and avoid standing in red, every normal dungeon can be tanked with a glass cannon dd in my experience. Against some of the tougher bosses I might use jewels of misrule and/or slot a damage shield.

Parse tanking is really fun. More people should do it! It's a tank build optimized for normal dungeon that holds agro, positions enemies, buffs the group and debuffs the bosses -- while doing 40-60k+ dps.

When playing tank in random dungeons, there are only a few situations that would make me quit: when my teammates' DPS or healers are simply too bad.

If the first wave of enemies takes too long, or clearing the first boss takes too long, or my health is constantly on the verge of death, I'll definitely quit. Poor DPS and healers make it almost impossible to win the final boss, and I don't want to waste time.

Those truly terrible DPS and healers really make me reluctant to play tank in random dungeons, especially when their DPS and healer performance is so pitiful that the tank can deal more than 20% of the damage or heal more than 50% of the healing.

When I used to tank randoms, I would quit if it was taking too long. I didn't mind doing longer DLC dungeons if the team was capable of it: ie being in chat and able follow instructions for mechanics. However I was pulled into dungeons on my tank on several occasions where they just weren't ready or willing to listen. I got tired of people like that and won't touch random dungeons unless I have a premade group.

Back when I was still playing, I'd queue as a tank on my tankblade, but in his dps lite build with a taunt equipped. I didn't do this often, but queueing as a full on tank will make me go insane if there's not enough dps for dps checks, which means I'd just alt+f4 my game to avoid being rude to the group. I'd not dip out of LoM if people know what to do/listen to mechs, but oh man some people not reading the chat for mechs is also something that just made me close the game. I take the deserter penalty to prevent further psychic damage... And I mean no offense to people who don't know how to play, I just don't have the spoons to wrangle noobs who don't listen to advice and tactics.
