Faster Research?

So they said it'll be faster across the board which is obviously great!

I'm just curious about the 9th item. I believe the actual time without passives and other bonuses is 60 days. They could half that and it wouldn't make any practical difference but be technically true that it's reduced.

Will they be changing the passives too? I can't remember the last time (if ever?) that anything in the crafting skills changed so would be really nice to see.

What's everyone hoping to see?

I never really understood why the time increased with each trait anyway.

7 day research scrolls in the bazaar along with the ability to just unlock all 9 traits via a skill line purchase once I have already done 1 character per account

Edit: and yes I expect to be disappointed

Because once upon a time, crafting was actually important in the game. Being a master crafter actually had some meaning behind it, and required a significant amount of dedication. Research times ensured only those dedicated could benefit from it. But then over time a sequence of changes rendered crafting less relevent. To the point it's more just a "necessary evil".

Crafting research totals sped up by 50%. Research scrolls remain the same. Didn't want to take away the achievement so it's faster but will still be taking quite a bit of time

This is quite disappointing, 1-8 will be quicker but over half the time is taken up on the 9th trait which won't change with the passives. Also the passives will be pretty pointless - 30 day maximum doesn't mean much when the top one will take 30 days

When was the last 9-trait? Greymoor? Don't think Elsweyr had one, but Southern DLC did.

That's not the point. All the sets are needed for master writs and research is needed for master writ drop rates

The lack of them diminishes the point of the crafting, so it very much is the point that I was agreeing with. With gold per voucher being set by the market place, there is no actual need to have 9 traits to complete a writ, you can just sell it, and then with the gold buy writs totalling the same number of vouchers. There's no actual need to have 9 traits researched.

Things like the more traits researched gives:
    Lower repair costs
    Lower materials used
    Confers additional stats
Or any number of other things

Would make the trait research pay off more. As it stands, it's just an unnecessary time sink, and not a particularly effective one.

Nirnhoned was added with Upper Craglorn in September, 2014.

Then Jewelry Crafting added 9 traits in June, 2018:
    • Robust
    • Arcane
    • Healthy
    • Bloodthirsty
    • Harmony
    • Infused
    • Triune
    • Protective
    • Swift

There haven't been any new ones since then.

I think I mostly agree that the research timers are more of "well that's how it's always been" kind of thing. There are only about a half-dozen craftable sets which require nine traits and only a couple more than that which require eight; none of those sets are anywhere near meta these days. The only practical reason for plowing through all nine traits for all gear and crafts are for the Master Writ drops. For transmuting and general crafting, you just need the traits you will want to use. But it would be nice if they would make gear crafting more useful to regular play, though. Make "Grand Master Crafter" meaningful again.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

    From the PTS:
We have reduced the time to be able to fully research Crafting Traits by over 50%.
This also sees the max caps being lowered as well, from 30 days to 10 days. This cap is derived from rank 4 of the Crafting Trees passive.

OK I take it back, this is really good!
