Sage‘s Vault: let‘s speculate what it could be

One of the more interesting features they announced today was Sage‘s Vault - a new type of system that was announced as part of Season 1.

o2pygou38v4k.jpeg

The name alone makes me imagine that this will be something similar to World of Warcraft‘s The Great Vault or Guild Wars‘ 2 Wizard‘s Vault - a system where you‘re earning e.g. a currency by doing in game stuff and then can decide on a weekly basis which reward / item you would like to get.

This seems to be the most reasonable expectation of what the Sages‘s Vault could be. Like Seals of Endeavor, but this time you‘re getting high quality items (or better said: items in different tiers / qualities depending on what things you did to earn them).

Maybe it’s something completely different and way more interesting - I hope so, as I neither like WoW‘s nor GW2‘s vault system. And that‘s what this thread is for: let‘s speculate what the new system could be!

I hope it's not like the wizard's vault as we'll now have golden pursuits and the battle pass. That's too many systems doing the same thing. My only guess is that it'll be storage related. Like a house that has even more chests in it or something. Or a new merchant.

That sounds like a good guess, but changes to treasure maps were announced in the QoL changes presentation and that makes me think both things will be independent from each other.

What's a Sage Vault, you ask? A vault to put sages in. What else would it be? It's a normal part of most homes on the Telvanni Isles.

I've been saying for a long time, they need to give us an incentive for fully collecting a set via the sticker book.

Eg. Everyone is given a new item slot, when you collect a complete set to the point where it costs 25 transmutes, you're granted a new item which provides the set piece bonus in a "minor" version.

Vicious Serpent at base gives 8% stamina cost reduction, 2454 stamina and 8s of major exp on killl. This new, minor version could give something like 2% stamina cost reduction, 613 stamina and 2s of major exp on kill.

Esentially the idea is to give more build freedom with a low risk slot you can use for sometimes, auxillary effects that you wouldn't otherwise spend an entire 5 piece bonus on. It wouldn't impede with mythics either. A lot of the time a mythic or set comes out that you'd like to use for sneaking or speed, but you can't because you feel like it nukes your dps. This wouldn't.

The term "Sage's Vault" when related to this idea could be a way for players to unlock/pay for the item. Maybe you spend the time to collect all the pieces in your book, but you need a seperate currency or quest to craft the special item. Even if you scrap the minor bonus part, it seems like the Vault aspect implies it has to do with loot, and I think this is their answer to make old sets interesting aside from just shifting the meta around with nerfs/buffs.

    Huh, that'd actually make sense.

That's one of my other major concerns about "Overland Difficulty" in regards to story quests - the fact that once you did them on your main, they're over.

Think about it: if I wanted to replay the Ithelia fight to see how it's different, I'd need to:
    1. Make a new character
    2. Get them enough skyshards to skill up the skills I want to use
    3. Do the entirety of the Necrom storyline
    4. Do the entirety of the Gold Road story
    5. Do the entirety of the epilogue
all to get to a 5 minute fight. At that point, it doesn't seem worth it.

I've done that before when I wanted to get some screenshots of the Molag Bal fight at the end of the MQ, and I remember grinding out the MQ and Coldharbour zones all to get to that one fight at the end, and that was even using a PTS template so I ddin't have to do the whole level-up grind as well.

A new type of Content? I might be confusing the term "Content" with "System". When I think of Content, I think of activities, like Dungeons, the Infinite Archive, and Cyrodiil. When I think of Systems, I think of gameplay mechanics that may be brought into Content, such as Companions, Scribing, and Tales of Tribute (though ToT is more like content than like a system).

If we're to expect a new type of Content, then how about some activity that doesn't heavily rely on the combat system? I'm guessing that this Content would rely on the dialogue system instead, like maybe a "choose your own adventure" sort of story that makes use of the improved dialogue options. Maybe a text adventure or visual novel sort of system?

It could also be something like the ability to paint custom images onto canvases, or maybe an input/output system for Housing. I think a system name like that could mean a lot of things.

It makes me think of The Great Sage. A character from Daggerfall books which was based on a member of the Council of Wisdom.

As for what the content is I am really hoping it is the ability to redo quests or something like that.

    I've found it!

In Wrothgar, Clan Morkul, by the Mage's Guild station - Rexus Arvina discusses how books are being sent to the GREATEST CAPITAL CITY OF ALL TAMRIEL, FABLED ORSINIUM, as the most noble of races has gone to great pains to recapture the lost knowledge of the GREAT ORSINIUM ATHENAEUM.

Our "kindly" neighbors burned our libraries and then laughed that our children grow illiterate? They destroy our great repositories of learning and then mock us? Have no doubt, Malacath will bless our grudges - as would any righteous god.

But the Sage's Vault obviously must be a new historical system - not quite antiquities, and somewhat in the vein of Numani-Rasi (Urshilaku Tribe wise wman who sends us to recover historical relics). This time, however, we shall unearth the lost history of our GREAT PEOPLE and build more museums to our achievements.

Valenwood? Wood Orcs! Hammerfell? Iron Orcs! Wrothgar? Orcs descended from Summerset slaves! Morrowind? Malahk Orcs! Skyrim? Children of Orkey! Cyrodiil? We serve the Legions loyally! Truly, Orcish mythohistory will enrich all the provinces, as all sages soon recognize our great contributions to society.

Perhaps it's not something "physical" like antiques that can be put in a museum (which, in fact, wouldn't be anything new), but rather a repository of knowledge or our experiences? Which then result in something.

Thinking back to the "big housing feature" we got a few years ago, it could really be anything, and if only a new menu in the UI where all treasure maps and crafting surveys are listed, with the ability to harvest them becoming a counter there instead of actual documents in your inventory (so basically like leads in the Antiquity menu).

What I'd like more, if it's mainly a UI thing, would be a list of all quests, including the ability to replay them, for people who want that.

Generally, I'd prefer new playable content, though. A real new system like antiquities were.

I want it to be a magic vault that looks like an ornate closet, but when opened, there is a huge room inside to house all the gears I collected and want to keep. When I ask the Armory Assistant for a set, he knows just where to find it. (Gives my banker a day off as well.)

Who knows. What if it was a kind of hub from which we could experience the history in the form of instanced content such as dungeons, trials, arenas or whatever.

Doesn't just tell you stories, but places you in them.

They did mention ship battles for example. This could be a way to put you in that situation.

It's the sort of thing I always hoped the infinite archive would do. Getting pulled into books by inky tentacles. For example some exaggerated telling of some quest you once did which is remade into some awesome instanced thing.
