Hi all, today for the first time, I lost it with another player and told them to pxxx off.
There was I, only been in Alik'r Desert a short while, hunting out runes for my enchanter, when I stumble across a Skull and Crossbones. Just like on any other Skull and Crossbones so far, I see a red mob appear and I attack it.
Due to the gold spamming, I have got into the habit of having two separate chat tabs, one called Guild with everything enabled except for zone chat, and the other the default one with zone enabled, and I only use the default one in PvP.
Anyway, I didn't realise that for the Lesser Circle, a mob comes along and summons the boss, I'm happily killing the mob, I then see a load of people standing on the hill nearby, mob dies and am surrounded by a few players, a couple using the clap emote, and one constantly running around me trying to stab me.
I realised at this point I had done something wrong.
After literally about 5 mins of this person running around me non stop, I told them to pxxx off. I then went onto the zone chat tab.
At that point the mob re spawned and another guy who was walking past, saw it and attacked. This time I had the zone chat on and could see other players comments.
Some were saying "stop don't kill it"
But others were saying things like
"fxxxing newbs"
"I bet their foreigners"
"they are doing it on purpose"
I responded with a /say saying
"I'm new to the area, I didn't realise I was doing anything wrong, all other times at skulls I have attacked the red mob, Perhaps it would be more constructive telling us what we are doing wrong rather than having a go???"
Total silence, no one bothered to respond at all. After a couple of mins I then said
"Well if no one is going to bother to explain what I did wrong then maybe I should attack the next mob I see????????"
At which point someone explained that the mob summons the boss and it takes ages because people keep killing it, and I thanked them for their response.
Yes my tone was curt, but if you had seen the comments being said in /say, yours probably would too.
Now I know, see a glowy thing in the future, don't rush in, wait until I know what's happening.
While I know what people can be like in mmos, it's saddening that people can be so quick to judge and condemn when all I was doing (and I suspect the other player too) was having fun in what I think is the best mmo in years.
Not sure of the solution but I can imagine those people waiting for the boss to see this happening time and time and time again by innocent players.
If people new to mmos who are weary of grouping, maybe haven't joined a guild or just in one with their spouse etc, had mainly soloed up to this point and experienced what I saw tonight, I can fully understand them being the type of person to come on here and complain about grouping being needed for some content (I love group content, just making a point) and asking for it all to be made solo-able etc, and to be honest, if players choose to speak to others like this, I cant blame them in the slightest.
