SOLO MODE - What I hope for the dungeon changes

What I hope for the dungeon changes

Solo mode or story mode?

I hope this is actually more like a story mode rather than a solo mode. Just ramp down the enemy health and damage until you can kill everything with light attacks, while wearing Velothi.

Here on the forums and in my main guild one of the most common dungeon related questions is the story mode, not solo mode.

Why not an actual solo mode? Because there is an

Already existing solo community

There already is a lot of soloing going on in the dungeons. This change should not take away from the existing soloers. Currently, the latest dungeons start to have high damage, high health and the speedrun limit is 25 minutes instead of 30 minutes, so I doubt we will see solo trifectas in the very latest ones.

But if the dungeons are rebalanced and solo mode is something else than just a story mode, I would hope the trifecta is tough, but doable. In MoS, for example, it already is doable solo. That would not require such balancing. But like the two latest dungeons, I doubt we'll see a solo trifecta there, unless either power creep, or rebalancing happens. Rebalancing should not take away from 4 player groups, either.

But on the other hand, I have seen a rising trend of duos doing the newer dungeon trifectas. Which brings me to

What about duo?

The solo mode (or story mode), if done actually that you need to be solo, some people might want to do the stories with a friend or a partner. So in this case, a story mode would be better than a solo mode. As in, there would just be a new difficulty so you could choose story, normal or veteran. And if you select story, you will not queue via finder and fill the group. Instead only your existing group jumps to the dungeon. If you are alone, then it's solo, but if you are grouped up with up to 3 other players, then those who are grouped go there.

But of course there could be some

Achievements

Maybe some "completed X in story mode" and perhaps make it possible to complete some of the RP achievements in story mode, too. Lot of the achievements that are under the normal difficulty are not combat related so there would be no reason to not be able to complete them in story mode.

But other than that, story mode would not give you much rewards to prevent people farming them in story mode. Speaking of repeating the dungeon,

Repeatable quests

The dungeon quest could be repeatable in the story mode. Similar to trial story quest, but without a week's cooldown for better rewards. Once you complete the quest once and got your loot, be it in story mode, normal or veteran, you would not get that again. Instead, repeating the story in story mode would give you something similar you would get if you complete a trial story for the second time the same week. Some low level gold and low xp. You could repeat the quest whenever you want, but if you don't get much more than low gold and low xp, no one would bother farming it.

Bonus QOL request: Reset the dungeon

Unrelated to the solo mode, I would like if there would be a possibility to reset the dungeon. If I solo or play in a group, and me/we are after, say, no death, but happen to die, I would like that we could simply reset the dungeon instead of any trickery or waiting.

As far as I know, they mentioned both a "solo mode" as well as a "story mode" in the stream.

Yes, they did. It sounds like there will be options.

If they are separate, and not only confused the terms on stream, I guess we need to wait for more info. Because I hope there would still be some challenge. Not sure what they plan for those two dungeons they mentioned as they are already soloable.

Were they said by the same person, or different people? The latter could just indicate two people calling the same thing something different.

I really do hope that it means the removal of BS mechanics from group dungeons while in solo mode. You know, the artificial "blockades" like pressure plates or perma stuns + insta kills that have nothing to do with difficulty.

In the interview, Nick stated that Solo dungeons may also have more challenging modes for those who seek a greater challenge. The problem here is that these people can already try soloing normal/vet/vet HM dungeon, so it seems kinda pointless. To solve this problem, ZOS can make modes like these:

    1. Story mode - just as hard as regular delve, so any casual player could see the story.

    2. Normal mode - just normal group dungeon, but without any anti-solo mechanics, like permastuns on Gamyne Bandu, or pressure plates in Direfrost Keep.

    3. Veteran mode - just veteran group dungeon, again without anti-solo mechanics, but also with HM mechs. And adjust bosses' health, so it won't be too low (like Captain Blackheart), or too high (like Lady Thorn). Would it be easier than soloing the same vet HM group dungeon? Yes, but it would be less annoying, cause anti-solo mechanics are usually not too hard to overcome (if you know how), and chipping away 18kk health of Lady Thorn for 20 minutes straight is boring. Add scores for this mode, such as for vMA/vVH, and give rewards based on them.

Yes, good idea. But still, should also be possible to do this as duo since some people might want to do this with friends or their partners. Surprisingly many couples play this game.

Here I would have to disagree with Gamyne Bandu, but not the pressure plates.

Gamyne Bandu should remain as is, since there are ways around it. It's the Spawn of Mephala that is difficult in FG2 as it requires extremely precise timing to avoid the cave mechanic. It can be done but it's unreasonably difficult and if you do it "right" it will happen again. So you need to kind of bug out the mechanic so it won't happen a second time. Or possibly make it so that going to the cave does not reset the boss.

And keep also Zaan fire grasp in SCP, Attendant of Flame chain jail in BRF, and Ulfnor's chains in FL. There are ways around them.

Well, ok, maybe remove those in normal but keep them in vet/vetHM.

    This would be most welcome.

Just went through the slides they showed in the stream and I can't find story mode there. Only the solo mode for the two dungeons. I do hope they are not talking about those modes interchangeably.

Nick and Susan had an interview. I don't know why it isn't advertised on ESO social media (or maybe it is, I just haven't seen it): https://wccftech.com/elder-scrolls-online-zenimax-interview-free-content-battle-pass/

    From it:
As for solo dungeons, as we build this feature out, the thinking is that there will also be different modes for players to engage in there, like a story mode for players who just want to go through the dungeon, experience the story and explore the space, and then mechanisms to increase the difficulty for players looking for greater challenges and better rewards.

Yup. Some of the dev team also jumped on Reddit and answered questions there. I tried to collect most of the text-based stuff outside of the news articles in one place. I wish that the interview at least had been posted in an official news discussion post.
