Locked out of treasure chests

Yesterday [Monday] when I was doing treasure chests for the daily endeavor, I found that they turned gray - So I could not try anymore. Then I waited, but they did not enable. And after 24 hours, still not enabled. Permanently locked out of opening treasure chests? Anybody else seen this? What could possibly cause this? Moved away and back to that chest. T ried other chests - all locked out.

✭✭✭✭✭That happened to me before and it took a few minutes before I realized what the problem was. I now keep lockpicks in the bank that I can retrieve with my bank assistant in case I run out again while opening chests.PCNA0 -

✭✭✭✭✭i usually end up picking up way more picks than i break on most toons since i mostly manually pick them, the only toon i usually force pick them is my main and my stealth characterplays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

✭✭✭✭✭I’ve seen people get buried in lockpicks when they mention in chat they ran out. Many players are very generous if you need something plentiful like that. (The other day I saw rice become a meme in Vvardenfell zone chat for the same reason — it prompted some pretty good puns too.) Wouldn’t advise overdoing it, but a one-off request in a time-sensitive situation like that is generally fine, imo.
The banker assistant mentioned above is also a good suggestion, though assistants are not cheap. The upside is they’re very useful for more than lockpicks — and any group members get to use them too.
Tanlorin, if you have access to them, will also save you some lockpick breakage with their perk. The perk can be earned permanently so you don’t need Tanlorin active. Their perk also gives extra time for locks and a better chance at forcing them. If you don’t have Tanlorin, they can be purchased individually for 1000 crowns or together with Zerith-var (also very useful, imo) for 1500 crowns —but it’s generally more cost effective to subscribe to ESO+ even for a month, claim both companions for no additional cost (the entitlement is permanent regardless of sub status), and use the 1650 crowns/mo. from the sub on other things.1 -

✭✭✭✭What's really wild is sometimes when I have an empty slot in a guild trader, I'll list a stack of lockpicks for more than you can purchase them from a merchant. And sometimes they sell.
