I'd like to go back to the original ESO... Where zones were level locked, and alliance locked until you'd finished the war storyline. Makes no sense to me you can freely travel to enemy alliances while the war is still going on.

Personally, I have nothing against those systems. CP is fine, especially now that it’s reworked and we’re able to play the game without micromanaging the green tree perks all the time. I also like AWA as I never planned on repeating all the quests on my alts; I only quest on my main. I don’t use scribing that much, but the quests to unlock it are very enjoyable imo, and there’s nothing really game breaking in that system. And despite all the problems, I like subclassing, and I definitely have fun with my main DK Sorc. Subclassing has to be better balanced though because right now it’s destroying the diversity of viable builds, both in group PvE and PvP.

This might a quester's dream, but it is a raider's nightmare. Early ESO had some interesting ideas and I'm certainly not a fan of all changes over the years, but we have so much QoL now it's probably too hard to go back. Think transmuting, reconstruction, curated drops, the armory system or even the outfit system. Also, a lot of old content is rather dull as compared to current content, even if you crank up the 'difficulty' by stripping away some of the power creep.

You could imagine a version of ESO with all the QoL features but without [enter your pet peeve here], but that wouldn't really be an ESO Classic. I'd rather have ZOS iterating on those features, instead of focusing on another (and frankly worse IMO) version of ESO, dividing the player base.

In all honesty, I don't think they could maintain two different versions of the game, unless "classic" literally means taking the old code from an earlier version and freezing the classic server in that state, without anything that's been added since and without additional updates.

Just look at how many random things break every time there's an update to the existing version of the game - the code is all intertwined in ways that even they don't fully understand.

But ok say they could do it... I also don't think one could get a substantial group of players to agree on what they'd like "classic" to look like.

What I think could be feasible (with the systems they've put in place for vengeance testing) is they could maybe do some kind of classic pvp instance with a different ruleset (like no subclassing, no scribing, combat balance in an earlier state, etc.). But would there be enough players to fill such an instance? And again, could one get enough players to agree on what version of classic they find appealing? I don't know.

Original base game didn't have CP but it did have VP and locked "end-game" behind it - being the crag trials which did not have normal difficulty, and crag itself which as an "adventure zone" was/is and abject failure.

Khajiit would support this endeavor whole-heartedly if only to give those who think they wish for the past an opportunity for enlightenment.

I wouldn't play much on it ..but it would be nice to see if I'd have an easier time with Doshia this time around.

It would be for the novelty, though ... it would be vastly inferior than what we have now.

no CP maybe a bit harsh, but no subclassing and no hybridization are much welcomed

That's exactly how it would work. It's the whole point. They would install a version of the code before those features and leave it at that. They might have to do the usual maintenance, but there wouldn't be any updates.

It’s too late. I’m not redoing the past almost 7 years. Besides, my main content is dungeons so I need the new updates and my friends. I’d only check it out to see what old ESO was like.

And then I still think it would be nearly impossible to find a large enough group of players who actually agree on what classic features they would want - the answers in these types of posts are generally all over the place, with most people just selecting certain features they personally dislike.

ESO classic without hybrid and subclass yes. Keep everything else. Sadly all players quit that would want that and only people who are fine with subclass still play

ESO Classic would remove several quality of life features, like drop curation, the Armory, mount swimming, stackable writs/surveys, and many more we take for granted. Presuming ESO Classic is a separate server (like PTS is from PC/NA and PC/EU) then none of your progress would transfer between servers.

At that point, you'd be playing ESO Classic solely for the combat, which is a very niche audience. There's so much more to this game than just the way you fight enemies.
