Molag Bal fight at the end of the main quest may be bugged.

His health pool was massive and it took almost 30mins to complete.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Many thanks.

I recently levelled some chars using the main quest and can confirm that it was a very very long fight.

Yeah, it is a very large health pool. Probably because he's the über boss of the whole campaign - he's not supposed to be a pushover. I didn't time the last time I took a character through (a week ago), but it did feel long. Not 30 minutes long, though, so there may have been some mechanics you were missing that prolonged things. Had you done this before, or was this your first play-through?

I have done this before on multiple characters now, I just don't remember it being that long tbh.

It was fine and cleared it no problem, but I felt the fight was different (he didn't spawn any adds during the fight).

Just a tank and spank, but it did feel it took unusually long time, even taking other runs into account.

I reeeeally should of recorded it as a comparison tbh.

Thinking back on the fight, as it was on an alt, I wonder if having CP somehow affected the scaling. Mine were 2000+

That's odd - he's supposed to spawn different things at different %health points, including titans etc. There's a breakdown on the UESP wiki page for the quest.

Not sure that would matter so much? I was on about 1600-1700, but it was a character largely geared for tanking, so DPS output isn't as high, which made it a bit slow.

I was thinking that if the scaling takes account of CP, then a new player at level 40 (which is roughly the level you'd be if you ran through the main story) would have a lower boss health pool than a old player who while at level 40 also has access to 160+ CP.

I guess that's one thing I won't be able to test! Is it known if CP is taken into account in scaling anywhere in base game, though? I'm somewhat sceptical that it is taken into account - certainly doesn't seem to be the case for base game overland content.

There are CP caps. Base game is capped at 160CP.
