With the upcoming steam machine, a question came up; I originally bougjt the game directly from zos and not through steam and did so for every update.
How would i get access to the steam version?
Can I access it now? Can i buy the base steam version and thrn have access to all my purchased content and eso plis account? Or do Ihave to ourchase all the latest expansion / content pass tgrough steam to get the same access?
If i bought next years content pass via steam would I then have access to everything in my account through steam?

If you really want access through Steam, you would only need to purchase the cheapest base game that often goes on 75% discount. When you login with your existing username you will have access to everything. However, I believe you can also install and play non-Steam games on the Steam machine and just manually add them to the Steam library for ease of access later on (basing this on the Steam Deck where you can do this).

The steam machine is ultimately just a PC that runs on a custom version of Linux. While you can certainly re-purchase a cheap version of ESO on steam, log into your account, and still have access to everything, you should also just be able to install the regular version of ESO no problem (potentially with some minor tweaking).

If I play on Steam can I use my character that I had played on PC?

Yes, the Steam storefront just uses the standard PC servers. It's just a matter of where the launcher is coming from.

    Great to know, thanks.
