Maintenance for the week of November 10:
• [COMPLETE] Xbox: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – November 12, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EST (17:00 UTC)

Maintenance... again...

Another 2 maintenance slots this week, seriously? That's 13 hours/wk of downtime bringing it to roughly 7.5%. Idk by which standards this is considered to be normal.

Where do you see two slots? I see one for PC and one for console, but consoles are up while PC is down and vice versa so it doesn't seem fair to count them twice.

That being said last week had sooo much downtime so I'm still a bit miffed we still have to deal with this again. Does anyone know what the patch is for on PC? We already had our update 48 far as I know, so what is it this time?

I mean they gotta put the patch out and make sure nothing farts or goes on fire while putting it on Live. The game ain't perfect, but maintenance is needed to address issues AND keep the megaservers up.

What patch though? What's being fixed? Are they re-enabling the wayshrines in Eastern Solstice...? That didn't go super well last time.

I dunno man, I don't got the patch notes. The header just says the servers are down for patch maintenance.

Sorry, my bad. I've mistaken XBOX for PC. But even then, we used to have maitenances every other week (annoyingly enough) and now it seems that weekly is the new standard.

Maintenance every week WAS the standard years ago, until it got changed to every two weeks for Google Stadia.

Funny thing is, when it was announced that maintenance would no longer be every week, some people complained about it in the forums, saying we would have to wait longer for bug fixes.

This is the standard incremental that we knew was coming.

They said in the known issues thread that several issues would be fixed in incremental 1, and the patch notes are telling us which issues will be fixed: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/685084/pc-mac-patch-notes-v11-2-6-update-48-incremental-1#latest

Unless of course you're implying that the game is in a perfect state and has no bugs...?

Whilst I rather not have as much downtime as there has been I can understand why.

The thing I don't get though is people complain about there being bugs and wanting fixes then cry when the game is down.

(The last statement wasn't against anybody in this thread).

In regards to there being lots of downtime it does usually increase more just after major updates. This is to be expected has PTS in no way covers the amount of server load live gets.

Some maintenance to servers is regularly required just like changing oil in a car which you would have to change every few days if you drove 100K miles a week like servers have to do.
The more they are used the more frequent the maintenance is what I am trying to say.

Imagine if you had to change the oil in your car every 7 days, and from time to time, you even had to change it 3 times in the same week. What would you do to that car?
I bet you wouldn’t even sell it to your enemy. Yet here we are, paying ZOS to do that to us.

While not cars, I'm a diesel mechanic for a large fleet of trucks that haul fuel and some of them do infact get multiple services a month. Because it goes by an antiquated system that automatically schedules a truck for service after a certain number of miles.

On topic, while it sucks to have maintenance, the game obviously needs it. We can't have it both ways.

Now we’re even finding excuses for the mess ESO has turned into with "motor oil" analogies.
Servers aren’t cars, they don’t physically wear down with "miles." If every online game needed this much "oil change," none of them would stay online for long.
    1. Most MMOs have regular maintenance, but not this often or disruptive.
Games like FFXIV, WoW, and Guild Wars 2 usually have scheduled weekly or biweekly maintenance, often lasting an hour or two. ESO sometimes needs emergency patches or unplanned downtime several times a week, which is far above normal.
    2. Server infrastructure is built for continuous uptime.
With cloud and cluster-based systems, most online services perform rolling updates, meaning they don’t take everything offline to fix or patch. That’s standard in 2025, not an exception.
    3. ESO’s problem isn’t "maintenance", it’s instability.
Frequent maintenance usually points to underlying issues in the codebase or server architecture that need constant hotfixes, not to "normal wear." It’s like rebuilding the engine every week instead of just changing the oil.
    4. Other online games handle load better.
Even games with massive concurrent users, like Fortnite, Path of Exile 2, or Destiny 2, don’t go offline multiple times a week. They roll out patches smoothly or communicate maintenance more clearly.
    5. Players aren’t mad about maintenance, they’re mad about reliability.
Regular maintenance is fine if it means smoother performance afterward. But when every "oil change" ends with more leaks, it’s fair to question the mechanic, not the car.

Geez, all I was trying to do was make it simple to understand.
But some people are too "smart" to understand simple.

Brother, relax. I told a story. I'm old, I do that. It's going to be ok. I'm upset with the state of the game too. I'm not a computer engineer though. I'm a mechanic, so I'm not gonna pretend to know what Zos needs to do or don't do. Maintenance sucks for everyone but it is what it is. Like I said, the game needs it. We can only hope they get this stuff fixed.

i couldn't agree more than what you described, i hope devs see this one and really take it into consideration on their future enhancements.
really after today maintenance the rate of getting disconnected from the game is laughable, was during Vet trail i got disconnected 3 times that cause the team to wipe since one healer is not available.

I don't work with cars, but in IT and everyone and their mother is aiming for (near-)zero downtime maintenance. There's games out there that just push the message 'hey guys, we did an update. Relog if you want the latest version.'

Most annoying thing is the random days for scheduled maintenance, one week it's Wednesday, the next it's Monday, and I have to constantly check the forums to make sure I can play today. It would be much more convenient if maintenance was scheduled on a specific day of the week, like in most MMOs.

Maintenance seems to be every week on Monday during the main Australia play time. We should get a reduction in subscription price given we're only getting 6/7 effective time to play.

Officially it was supposed to be mondays.

But there are times when it isn't.

One is when there's a public holiday in the US on a monday.

Another is when it's an emergency maintenance that cannot wait.

Some of the wednesday ones are prior to events starting on a thursday.

The major issue is comms. I think if they added a maintenance message, at the same time as they add the banner message, to the in game announcements it would alleviate alot of resentment.

After today I think we're at 5 maintenance in two weeks, right?

I wonder if this is a good thing or bad. I guess they're fixing things. But why are so many things being rolled out in a broken state?
