Game Crashing since last maintenance

Since the last maintenance shut down, my game crashes without an apparent cause or notice. There is no lag / latency issues; just shuts down.
The error message says the launch failed. (Launch failing in the middle of playing rather than at launching the game confuses me.)

I do not run in compatibility mode for Win 7 because I was told the game isn't supporting WIN 7 anymore. (I don't understand why this would work and do not want to make things worse.)
I did set the launcher to Admin mode.
Everything else was cleared before commenting.

I'll let you know how it goes later when I can play for more than a few moments.

The trouble shooting did not work. Crashed out after about 3 hours of play this day, just after completing a dragon. While it may not be related, this makes the third time the game crashed after or while fighting a dragon.

Crashed again only 55 minutes in. This is very annoying.

@ZOS_CouchTato Crashed again. Same notice. Launch failed after about 1 hour of play. Did you stop caring? I am not hearing from you again.

You'll need to submit a ticket if you want more help. Then post that ticket number here. The only thing I can suggest is try closing the launcher after the game starts and see what happens.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have tried that but it still crashes with the statement that the launch failed.
I was hoping for an easy fix since I have had no trouble until the last maintenance.

I had a lot of issues and did a bunch of traceroutes.

The problem in my case was Akamai. (a service ZOS pays for to keep various online mischief)

If you use a proxy server you can get around Akami and then the problem went away for me.

I understand what you are saying; however, working around a security service seems like a bad idea to me.

The instructions / suggestions provided in the emails didn't work. Perhaps an overhaul of the support service is needed. The emails kept telling me to do things that I already did. The gave me instructions for a OS that I wasn't using. And in the end it offered a sad standard of uninstall and reinstall advice. I removed the launcher as suggested and now I have no launcher at all because reinstalling the game did not reinstall the launcher.

I am not meaning to sound curt but this is a very frustrating and impersonal process. I can not be certain that a human was even involved in the email trouble-shooting. I am hoping not since the majority of the content was not applicable and the rest referenced information already provided.

I've been getting random crashes on PC/NA / Win11 as well.

I couldn't be bothered going through the troubleshooting. I just restart the launcher & game.

Does ZOS use A.I. trouble-shooting or customer service emails? Some of the help I have been offered sounds off or repetitive. I don't know if I should trust the instructions now. I do not understand what 'alternet' is. When I looked it up the description was "AlterNet is a left-leaning news website based in the United States." How does a news site have anything to do with fixing my launcher?

If you run through the many instructions, I am asked for the same information and asked to do the same processes. This is a serious issue that other people also have.
I launch the game, play for a time between 30 minutes and 4 hours. The game crashes and reports the launch failed. Some times, I can play for several hours and the game does not crash.
The problem is not that I cannot launch the game. I do not have problems with the launcher except for the one time that the trouble-shooter suggested I delete my launcher and replace it. Then the launcher would not launch and I had to replace it with a copy I had on back up.
The problem is not that I cannot play the game. I play well without serious latency. Usually around 60. Latency does not go up before the crash.
The problem is not that I do not have enough memory. (one email asked me to do several hardware checks including spending over an our testing memory.) I have 32G RAM, 16G NPU, and 32G GPU. RAM and graphic memory were not even close to being 30% in use for the who process on the PC.

For the record, the last suggestion resulted in multiply crashes in a single day. I removed it and replaced it with the old backed-up data because one or two crashes is better than seven.
The last response I received, this morning, we are back to asking for data that was already provided. I don't understand the process. It feels like it is all over the place. Remove programs, add apps, update this and that, replace, delete, install, uninstall, test, report...
The error box said the launch failed. The launcher was replaced at least 7 times and the only thing that changed is the number of times the game crashed. (Except for the one time when asked to delete files after which the game claimed it did not have permission to run. I had to replace it with a backed up copy to fix that.)

@shadoza It seems you are confusing two different issues here. Your game crashing has absolutely nothing to do with the error your launcher gives. The launcher gives a faulty error, and can be ignored(has done so for me for many months, and is something ZOS should really fix**). If you do run a repair, this will actually corrupt the files, so do not run a repair!

However, you crashing is a real issue. This wasn't 100% clear from your posts, but your game crashing is a crash to desktop or to login screen? Also, what are your specs, mainly GPU/CPU/motherboard? Could you post the related eventviewer error(check eventviewer after the crash)?

Assuming you are crashing to desktop(as you state you see the launcher error when this happens), I am suspecting two things:
1: Your GPU drivers are not functioning well. If you have a Nvidia 40 series GPU, use 566.36 as the latest stable driver. If you have AMD, you will have to do some research yourself, as I am not familiar with AMD GPUs or drivers.
2: *Let a professional do this! Or do not touch this at all!* Your CPU is set to a too high speed and is not capped in the BIOS(has been happening with MANY new computers lately as BIOS's come uncapped). This will give various errors and crashes, especially with something like ESO. Be VERY CAREFUL before adjusting anything in the bios! Check online for your CPU and motherboard specs, to see what the maximum speed for your cpu/motherboard combination is. Then check your motherboard manual on how to safely set that speed(let a professional do this!).

    Goodluck in getting this resolved!

PS: If it is a crash to login, then it is a network/ISP problem. And you can ignore my above suggestions.

**Note for ZOS: Not sure why this faulty launcher error is happening, but my guess is due to SSD drives moving ESO's files around while the game is running already. Causing the launcher to think the files are missing/corrupt, even though they are not. I can be in-game, even for 6+ hours on some days, without any crashes/disconnects/performance issues at all and never run a repair(even though the launcher wrongly tells me I should).**

This is a shot in the dark, but do you have multithreaded rendering turned on? If so, turn it off. I used to bluescreen about every 45 minutes because of this setting, and turning it off fixed it for me.

The game is crashing to the launcher (launcher is still open.) The error box that comes up says different things; The launch failed, the files are corrupted, or no message at all and the launcher is just frozen.
The graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
    My CPU is not overclocked
Memory is 32G Ram, 32G GPU, and 16G NPU
GPU use is less than 30% during game
RAM use is less than 12% or less during game
latency (in game) is reading about 60 - 70
There is no drag, lag, glitches or stuttering, the game just falls down (quits itself.) The game was running great until the end of September, then just started the crashing.
The only thing the launcher has to do with the crashes is the reports that sometimes show up afterward. I do not know what is going on.

Just to test, I turned the in-game mRendering off. If it doesn't fix anything. I can turn it back on easily.

Ah, I get it! The above still applies. (a BIOS update may also fix your issue)

Just ignore the error/issues the launcher gives you, if you run a repair you will actually corrupt the files(believe me, I have tried). So do not run a repair! Kinda backwards, I know. The launcher giving that error and your crash out of the game are unrelated, it is just the launcher you are seeing because it was open, had you opened a picture on your desktop the picture would have been what you were seeing directly after the crash from the game. (The launcher being frozen when the game closes/crashes is just another launcher bug, wait a minute till it unfreezes and ignore it, you can find another thread about this unrelated issue on the forums as well)

The CPU is always standard overclocking(safely) nowadays, due to the CPUs and motherboards just being shipped and working that way. Normally this isn't an issue with about 99% of the programs/games, but programs like ESO will not like this at all. Not sure if this is due to high load or due to instructions clashing/halting(again due to load). Point is, you need to make sure your CPU does not run more than your motherboard can handle. Otherwise the game cliënt will be waiting for data it will never receive from the CPU, and crash as a result(regardless of how great the game was running or the game's settings). So check your CPU and motherboard supplier's website and exact specs, to see how much your CPU can handle with that combination. Basically check which programs are installed on your motherboard and compare these to the CPU requirement of running at a certain speed.(a BIOS update alone may already work in resolving your crash issue) **If you post your CPU model and motherboard model, I could even check this for you.**

Before doing anything with the BIOS, make sure to read your CPU and motherboard supplier's manuals. Or let a professional do this!

TLDR: Ignore the launcher and it's errors/issues you are seeing, and focus on the game crash itself.

PS: My CPU 14900k which can run up to 6.0Ghz had to be limited to 5.6Ghz, due to the motherboard not being able to handle more. Everything worked fine while running at 6.0Ghz though, except ESO(and two other really really heavy games).

Edit: Hopefully the turning multithreading off, as suggested by the user above, already fixes your issue!

I understand you have a unique weekend.

The agents are communicating with me. I suppose they are doing their best. Because of all the wrong things happening and some issues with the fora, I am starting to feel a bit demoralized.

I wish we could figure out what went wrong a month ago and fix it. Game worked well up to that point.
