There are some very vocal complaints about the event in these forums.

And yet, when I'm in the game, I'm seeing a lot of players hunting animals for event quests, hunting cultists and Daedra in the modified delves and public dungeons for event quests, and burning down siege camp invasions en masse for event quests.

It doesn't mean anything if you see people doing the event around you.

Each zone is considered an instance with a maximum number of people per instance.

So the question is not whether you are with many players, but how many different instances are ongoing for Solstice to give access to the area to everybody.

From your perspective, you simply can't say the event is a success because you have no idea how many other full instances are ongoing at Solstice.

They are listening and communicating, as well as making changes. I suggest people keep abreast of the Dev Tracker.

Which makes me wonder just how representative the complainers in these forums really are. And I'm not saying there haven't been issues, and I'm not saying that some ESO streamers are vocal in dissing the event.

But other streamers seem like they're enjoying the event, and their viewers (who generally seem to be higher in numbers than the viewers for some of the other ESO streamers) sound like they're enjoying the event as far as the chats going on.

Not only that, but the servers seem to have been making pretty good progress in Phase 1. I'm sure some people in the forums will say that this is because ZOS is manipulating the numbers, but anyone who's actually participating in the event activities can plainly see that there are a lot of players coming and going at Stirk, as well as a lot of players coming and going at the main siege camp on Solstice.

So I'm kind of confused as to who to believe about just how popular or unpopular this event is. /scratches_head

I would say believe yourself, not what you read online. And if you group with other players in game, believe what they tell you.

Separately, the folks in a guild I belong to on PS/NA to were saying in guild chat they needed one more player for Ossein Cage. So I switched alts and jumped in. Folks in the trial group PSN voice chat were talking about the event. Some said they liked the Writing Wall event and others said it is grindy and they were only doing the three gold boxes per day. Oh, and the group took a few minutes break right after we got started in Ossein Cage so that everyone in the group that wanted one could get a "fresh" collect the vitrified soul quest. Because vitrified souls drop at a high rate in Ossein Cage.
