Buying previous chapters

If you bought th base game, and then want to buy all the chapters, how are you supposed to do that? The 2025 content pass, which I thought would have that, sayt it doesn't include previous chapters. Only buying the 'premium game' which includes re-buying the base game seems to have them.

You can buy them in the crown store, but if you need all of them it's probably cheaper to get the premium pass.

You could also subscribe to ESO+ which gives you acess as long as you're subscribed, and crowns you could use to buy the bits you want to keep.

A bit of warning about ESO plus as it doesn't contain the last chapter or how it's called a season pass now, so no last phase of event nor this year's zone, only last year and downwards essentially.

If you want all previous chapters you have to buy the Premium Content Pass. That‘s the one with every chapter. Regular Content Pass is just Solstice and the dungeon packs.

Content Pass is just a new name for chapters, functionally they're the same. (And Chapter was a new name for zone DLC, but that was supposed to justify delaying adding it to ESO+).

Actually it's worse than chapters.
For players that already pay ESO+ and would get essentially 3 DLC for "free" outside of buying the year's expansion, now we're forced to pay more for a "pass" that contains (depending how you see it) "more" content, but still pay ESO+ on top of it.

I can't shake the feeling this was aimed at people who only log into the game when something comes out, to come and grind the content in a few weeks, and leave de regular daily player with a bitter taste in their mouths. Grab the big bucks from those who only hop in occasionally to see what's new while screwing the long-term clients.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the dungeon DLC. I never buy them (although I guess if/when I get the content pass I'll have to) but you're right, that makes it a worse deal for subscribers.

I didn't see a 'premium pass', only the 'content pass' and the premium game that included the base game also.

I tried to look again and the store is down.

Right now the game scroll bar says to buy 'the 2025 Content Pass or the Premium Edition' on sale. No 'Premium Pass'.

Pretty sure there are only two options, the 'retail' Premium Edition and the 'upgrade' Content Pass.

(In previous years there were a standard and deluxe version of each differing in the cosmetic items included, for four options total, but not this time.)

My impression is that the previous 'retail' Collections that included all previous Chapters always include the base game as well. You don't get a discount for any earlier Chapters you happen to already own either. This is a traditional digital retail package, it's not like those dynamic bundles on Steam that only charge you for the bits you don't already own.

Aside, in case you weren't aware, the Premium Edition does not contain previous DLC Zones, only Chapter Zones. So Summerset, but not Clockwork City, for example. It only contains the DLC with an "As Chapter" release date in the right-most column on UESP's DLC table.

It seems a little bad that if you buy the base game, you have to re-buy it to get the extra chapters, while someone else who buys the premium as the first purchase gets the same thing for less. At list that's $20 wasted/duplicated.

On the 'positive' side, by that same reasoning, each of the previous Chapters included cost €40 at release, so you're paying a measly €50 now on top of €20 earlier, when someone who bought everything at release had to pay, at list, €20 base game + 7 Chapters × €40 = €300 for the same content.

In any case it's always wise to wait for discounts, particularly the 60%? off at the end of November.

None of that actually helps with this issue, though, exactly. Sure, if you played base game for years, the chapter cost would add up, if you bought other chapters. But say you buy base game to try it, like it and want the rest not too much later.

I'm not sure if it used to work differently. I think MMO's often bundle 'all previous' with the current DLC/chapter.

I thought the max 'end of November discount' is 50%, but that's IIRC. Ya, that is a better idea, just listing list price to make the point. It's not convenient to 'wait for a sale' even if it's helpful to save.
