Event rewards?

So, I try not to complain. I love the game, I'm an officer in a great guild, I have a lot of fun. We have been hyping this event in our guilds discord for a couple weeks now. Planning groups. We got a lot of people together last night. I was pretty bummed going into it after reading about how much of a mess it was while on my lunch at work. I thought, well this is upsetting but I'm gonna try it for myself before I come to a conclusion.

So after getting a group together, we plowed forward. I will be fair. In a large group, getting things like troll fat and souls are very easy. Going to siege camps is the way to get souls. Unfortunately the siege camps are a dice roll. For hours they would start and then stop. Start then stop. We'd run to the next one and it would start then despawn. Ugh. All in all though, not impossible. The new world boss, that's not technically supposed to be there, we thought was fun.

Where it starts to break down for me is a couple things. This event is supposed to be working together but zones were full of folks fighting over killing stuff for troll fat or sap or whatever. Do something about this.
The boxes though. I'm not a scientist. I'm a greasy, dirty diesel truck mechanic. But I opened 87 boxes. My gold boxes all had 1 piece of gear each. That's it. Nothing of the guaranteed whatever's. 87 boxes got me a grand total of 5 green treasures, one style page and a plan for a spyglass. And 89 worthless pieces of gear. No motif. No fragments for the caltrops skill style. The siege camps, of which I did a couple dozen when they worked, netted me 3 haj mota scales.

My question is, is this how it's supposed to be? A once in a lifetime, world changing, history making event. Seems like it got pushed out the door without making sure everything was gonna work right and the rewards were gonna feel good to players.

I would hope someone from Zos could chime in but they will not.

Am I wrong for being a little bummed out here?

Awesome! Happy to be wrong about that one.

Currently 1 regular box from the event = 1 piece of blue gear

For some reason ZOS believes that we players consider blue pieces of gear to be rewards (I guess they just don't play their game and don't read our feedback to acknowledge how wrong they are about it).
I do understand that the motif pages that are supposed to drop from those boxes are bugged, but even if that is fixed, its still meh.

Doing daily crafting writs offers far more exciting rewards than dailies from this event (aside from those three glorious reward boxes that are good) And this was supposed to be something big, that we waited for the whole year.

At this point I don't see any reason for a player to do those daily quests after completing the first three.
Progress bar? Couple of hours of our server effort was trashed yesterday, so I stoped carrying about that.

Maybe if we just stoped and never teared the wall it would give ZOS something to think about. How far they are off on everything..

What's wild to me is the previous years' current-chapter-celebration-with-a-progress-bar events had much better rewards, both inside and outside of the reward boxes.

They could have at least put furnishings and furnishing plans in the reward boxes, like previous events. Or added double drops for the rest of the year's content. I dunno why I half-expected to be able to quickly fill out my stickerbook in nOC alongside the trial motif now dropping. I'd much rather run actual content than do 100s of stale fetch quests, but I don't even have that option because apparently fetch quests are the entirety of the event.

Seriously, how is the "once in a lifetime" event a worse version of the same type of event we've already had multiple times?

This is the sad part. There are furnishings and plans in the boxes. But not really cause good luck getting them to drop. I'm not the only person in my guild group last night to open 80 plus boxes. I got a furniture plan for a spyglass and a style page for the efforts. This result was pretty common in our group. We usually had about 10 to 12 people with people cycling in and out but a core group of 6 or 7. Same story with their drops.

Oh, that's pretty funny! I played for about an hour yesterday, opened maybe 15ish boxes and received one Wormwrithe style page, and everything else was blue overland set pieces (which IMO is very much a non-reward).

Charitably, maybe the drop tables are bugged/lower than intended...?

I do the absolute minimum - one quest each to get the golden box, so there's at least some chance something of use might drop (the normal boxes are completely useless, it seems). Not that I got any style pages or furnishings (or furniture plans) yet - only 4 of those pet fragments.

It's sadly not that interesting (even ignoring the hype - did anyone really expect something "world changing" and "becoming part of history"?). PTS people have been saying that for weeks. Hints have been posted as well, about how there will be problems with the low drop rate and dozens of people trying to kill the same mobs. Or how you burn through mats wih the crafting quests and get nothing of interest in return. We still got what we got.

Slightly curious about how things will go when the Writhing Fortress opens in phase 3. Lagfest? Server crashes? Interest dying down in 3 days so there won't be enough people around anymore to complete it in a reasonable way? We'll see.

Did the grindy dailies and got two Haj Mota frags I don't really care about and the usual overland fodder. Then I went to farm coffers from field marshals in public dungeons but soon found out those also have the annoying drop cooldowns that everyone despises. Got nothing of note for any boxes I did farm that way, just more decon fodder. Only got one furnishing plan that is a common drop from Dolmens...

This just plain isn't fun. There was little variety for the dailies, which probably contributes to so many players gathering at a few select locations to grind furs and souls, exacerbating the problem with competition. Trying to farm souls from the "invaded" delves and Public Dungeons is just hilariously bad compared to farming some normal overland locations. Like I noted above, coffers are also on a cooldown timer so your fun boss hunting quickly get halted and you are stuck twiddling your thumbs until you are allowed to loot again; I absolutely despised this cooldown bs with the Witches Festival event because the RNG on coffers is horrendous and a massive waste of time.

It's sad an event makes one think about that, but, yes, I had the same thought.

To be fair I hope no one actually believed the PR speak about game changing, history making. But. Those were put out there. All they had to do was make it as rewarding as the 10th anniversary event and it'd be a hot of sorts. The quests would still be uninspired, the new incursions would still be broken, the players would still be in a constant knife fight for furs or sap or fat but the rewards would be there. Don't make it a slog. Make it a grind but make it worth it.

As for it being a real knife fight out there. It sucks for the solo people but I would recommend to everyone to be in a group when doing these quests. When you hit up the siege camps, there's your souls. When you go for your troll fat or whatever, it was taking our group about 30 seconds to a minute to get all that was needed. Group of 10 to 12. Should you have to do that? No. But it helps.

I did all four types of event activities yesterday on two servers-- crafting, killing animals, killing Daedra, and protecting siege camps. I opened all of my reward coffers after completing each type of activity-- did all six crafting quests then opened all six reward coffers, did all six animal-killing quests then opened all six of those reward coffers, etc.

It may have been RNG, and it may have been some kind of illusion caused by the order I did things in, but it seemed to me as though the reward coffers from (IIRC) the six crafting quests had the best rewards in them. I don't know if that's just because those were the quests I did first and the reward coffers I opened first. I'll do the activities in a different order today as a test.

After the event golden box dropped, I mostly got set pieces for my stickerbook but I did get a Jawbone sconce that looked good. The people that thought this up should have stepped back and took a good hard look at how it would run.

So I am getting 2 yellow and one blue box, for the first time handing in the quests each day. Blue boxes after that. Should it be 3 yellow/gold boxes?

Is there an official post, patch note or anything from ZOS that clarifies what is dropping in phase 1, 2 or 3?

On PTS & patch notes, all of the furnishings came at the same time. But I haven't seen any of these - if you CTRL+F search this page for Meridian Lenses - there are none on TTC, but other plans are dropping:
    https://moonpile.tumblr.com/post/788564494988230656/update-47-pts-furnishings

Are Meridian Lens plans not dropping until Phase 2 or...?

P.S. OP I agree. I got a few good things, but also same experience as you later on. 1 gear piece in a coffer is sad.

MoonPile If you are lucky enough to get a plan from an EVENT crafting daily it will of the type of item that you had to make I.E it it was a clothing quest you will get a PATTERN, blacksmithing a DIAGRAM etc.

So far I have only had quests for clothing, blacksmithing and woodworking, none for alchemy, enchanting or provisioning.

My guess is we will not get those until phase 2 ?

The blue boxes are simply not worth the grind for one piece of equipment that can be brought off a trader. Ill do the dailies for the gold boxes then move on to something else.

    Ok then time to take a nap until phase 2 I guess ^^;

I received one style stone so far. To me a moment to realize it wasn't a treasure.
