Whereas the cultists at the end of the Seacave have glitchy or nonexistent shields, with the only one visible sitting much higher than the ones at the other site:

I've been trying everyday since the PTS started but have never got near to completing the fortress quests.
I'm using a cp3600 template with as strong a build as I can make it.

When I played through the content in week 3 on my main who has done all quest content before, I had a reply available that my template character had not: Being able to tell him that I already destroyed a shackle in Coldharbor once. Has that option disappeared?

Do you have a source on his age? We know he founded the Mages Guild in about 2E 230 (which is about 350 years ago now, yes), and we know it was after he had left Artaeum, which was not long after Mannimarco had been cast out; and we have sources stating that at that time they were still in their youth. So Vanus was a young man when he founded the Guild, or not? With that, 400 would not be incorrect; and as Skordo is no mage and not interested in magic at all, would he know exactly when the Mages Guild was founded anyway?

(it's left vague as to whether she was there yet for Mannimarco's banishment, she could have been newly arrived, it could have been before her time), and Vanus appeared to be an adult in the projections we see in Traitor's Vault, he should have been at least in his twenties when founding the Mages Guild, so in the upper range of Skordo's guess would be a possibility.
But Emmandic Oltz on Eyevea, a member of the Mages Guild and therefore positioned to be someone who should have a better idea than most, tells us Vanus is "the better part of 600 years old":
