ESO 2

My idea for bringing old and new players to ESO. From a PvP player perspective.

Firstly I wanna talk about crossplay. If it were to happen, I'm sure alot of old players from both console and pc would return. We could call it "ESO 2". I would also suggest reverting subclass and hybridization. ESO Classic! Half my friend list quit the game when subclass became a thing. Same happened with hybridization. We want stam and magicka classes back.

I'm not entirely sure about their plan of having the same game run for 30 years, it not a good idea imo as games die out over time. A new game, a new beginning, ESO 2 would bring new and old players, big steamers would surely play it. A new mmo with both PVE and PVP would be huge news for the gaming community. But at the same time ESO that we play now would die if we made a new game. So I suggest a big update, a new cyrodiil, crossplay, revert subclass and hybridization and call it ESO 2.

I understand a problem with crossplay could lead to more lag to Cyrodiil. We could have 3 normal big campaigns, a Gray Host, a Blackreach and new one so that the players could spread out. Since I believe the population would increase by alot.

If crossplay wont happen. Then we could atleast make a update where we revert subclass and hybridization and call it ESO Classic or ESO 2. Atleast an idea for the future.

What are your thoughts about this or something similar?

Making a MMO takes forever and a day. That would be a project if started today, couldn't be finished in 5 years.

Yes, this is some ideas for the future. I’m not expecting this to be done anytime soon.

It would split the player base so my guess is that they won't do this, but I agree on the "ESO Classic". I wish they would launch an ESO Homestead patch server. This was right before Morrowind sustain nerfs and CP changes, but after One Tamriel. CP was at a nice 600 cap and balance was in a great spot. Modern QoL and item transmutation would be nice.

I just don't see how the current version of ESO can get back to a good place without literally reverting many major patches. They also wouldn't need to design a new game at all. I'm sure they still have previous versions of the game saved somewhere.

Don't think an MMO sequel will never happen. Too much work, too much money and starting over the game would probably be too barebones the first years.

Don't think classic would happen either. Takes a major effort as well, double the servers, double the maintenance, double stores, double support. I also think most players won't like that suddenly half of the major game systems they are used to and are taken away. Also how far would you go back. I don't think stuff like pre-OneTamriel would be interesting to most modern gamers. It nearly killed ESO a decade ago, so it certainly would only be popular with a super niche kind of gamer in 2025.

If people dislike the game that much, they should face reality and move on to something they actually enjoy, rather than clinging to the past. Live service games and MMOs evolve over time because that’s part of their nature. If you're not comfortable with that, it's better to stick with offline RPGs where the experience remains consistent.

They've confirmed that they are working on crossplay.

They're not just going to revert hybridization and subclassing. This just isn't some small indie game run by a dude who can completely change his plans and the game's direction on a whim. Future stuff is already in development and it's based on how the game is now, not how it was in the past. Corporate bosses aren't going to approve of "actually these whole big projects we did were wrong and we have to revert them and start over". It would be much more productive to discuss how the game as it exists now might be evolved and improved.

I also very much doubt they are ever going to spend time developing a whole eso classic server. They have always had a philosophy of not wanting to split the playerbase. They clearly have more limited development resources than in the past, and this would be a serious undertaking, to support multiple versions of the game. Short of literally reverting the code to an earlier patch (removing EVERYTHING that has been added), this seems like it would also be a major development effort since much has been added and changed over time and the code has all been jumbled together. A lot of work and new costs for something that has no certain outcome of success.

And then I also doubt you could put 100 players in a room and get even ten of them to fully agree on what eso classic would even mean. Every feature or balance change that gets reverted and might bring a player back to the game, might also drive a different one away.

Since when this eso classic idea comes up from time to time it often sounds like a pvp thing... where what folks are really saying is they want to return pvp to the skill and class balance that was present in an earlier patch... well that might be possible now that vengeance has seemingly opened the door to having vastly different cyro instances with different skills and rulesets. I could more readily see something like that happening, if there's enough interest. The pvp population is pretty low though - and there's still the issue of different people having completely different patches in mind when they think of classic eso.

I quite like the flexibility and options that both hybridization and subclassing have brought to the game.

It would be a great idea except in order for there to be a '2', then the one before it would have to end. Perhaps not the best time to go looking too far ahead. :)

ESO has been a good thing and who's to say we won't all meet up again in ESO 2: The Search for more Inventory Space.

Why would you waste resources to start a new basic mmo with little content when you can expand and improve on an mmo with a lot of content...this makes no sense
