Flying mount alternative?

I understand memory constraints but what i suggest and maybe a few in the past have as well I'm not sure, but take a flying insect for example.
Give it the same animations as a horse Mount just remove the legs make them invisible then the insect looks like it's hovering (aka flying)
You could also do the same to the Dwarven technology and create a hovering steam powered mount which looks like it's flying as well.
Oh well it's just a suggestion that I think would sale well or you could just give us our fetish mount a big ole chicken lol yellow of course like big bird hehehe

As compromises go, this one is pretty solid.

And like all great compromises: no one is truly happy, but everyone gets a little of what they want.

ZoS gets to continue making $$$ on a clearly aging chassis rather than buckle down at long last and update, and players get SOME of the classic flight fantasy they've been asking for since the game launched well over a decade ago.

If I understand the suggestion, the flying mount would hover at about the same height as a horse's body and simply be a bit of an illusion. If so, I'd have no problem with it. Though, no interest in it either. :)

As long as it would hopefully avoid the neon cartoon exploding obtrusive screen-blinding animations that infect so many of the newer mounts. ;)

It probably wouldn't... apparently every new mount in ESO needs them now. God, I can't say how much I HATE those neon colored explosions, summoning animations and effects in general. I really wish we'd have some way to turn them off.

As for the OP's suggestion... a hover mount like that would get stuck on every pebble just like the normal ground mounts. Which would not only look bad but also completely defeat the purpose of having it.

Not trying to go too far off topic but regarding the obtrusive mount colors/animations, I'd love to have an option to toggle in settings so every player I see would be riding a brown standard horse. Win/win I should think. Those who love the fancy mounts could enjoy and see them and those who don't would be spared.

Aw, but then you wouldn't be able to see my non-explodey fox mount.

While it would be cool, I agree that getting stuck on ground will most likely happen if implemented in such way. Yesterday I found out that I get completely stuck in some places while swimming on a mount in ink in Apocrypha. As in I cannot move in any direction at all once I'm in one of such places. I had to dismount and swim normally to get unstuck.

I know a lot of people who would use that. And I also see why ZOS absolutely would not go for it. It’d be a win/win for the players… but a major loss for ZOS’s bottom line.

Seeing flashy stuff from other players is advertising, full stop. They want people to see it, and they want people to be inspired to buy Crown Store things to have it for themselves. And it sells - when’s the last non-flashy thing that they sold in the Crown Store that generated a lot of hype?

Think of it like YouTube: they put ads on videos, and then they immediately went on a “no adblockers!” crusade. Why? To get people to buy their Premium service. The whole model is that you must be forced to see the ads… unless you pay them to not see ads.

If you want to be able to hide other peoples’s flashy mounts or weird armor styles or lore inappropriate names, it’s honestly not in ZOS’s interest to let you do that. But if you asked them for a switch that you could pay $5/month on top of ESO+ to have that choice… then maybe it would make financial sense…

Actually, ZOS manages to accomplish the opposite ... the flashy, exploding mounts, pets and animations have all but turned me completely away from the clown store. I only visit the store when I actually need to buy something like character slots.

Adding the option to replace all mounts with a brown sorrel horse would make me more likely to really enjoy the game again and that in turn would increase my willingness to spend money.

Edit: Also, the people who'd be using such an option aren't likely to buy the flashy stuff anyway, so the the effect would be minimal.
As for lore inappropriate names, ZOS lets us hide them at least from chat. My ignore list basically consists only of such people. And in-game I only see their names when I mouse over them to interact anyway, not sure whether that's the default setting or not.

And YouTube allowing adblockers would get me to spend a lot more time on their platform. Doesn’t mean their bean counters think that it’s a good idea, even if it would be more profitable from me personally.

There are things you can do: whenever ZOS releases something subdued in the store, make sure you buy it and get everyone you know to buy it as well. If ZOS sees more subtle things selling more, they’ll be more likely to make more of them.
