Nope, it's just information - of which I was unaware before today, assuming like most that most botters were either Chinese slavers or just completely stupid.

They have infested every low-level starting point. There are a ton of them in BleakRock right now. I'm getting so tired of this. I really think it's time I un-sub, this is really making the game completely un-enjoyable.

Yeah I'm still trying to figure out what to do about my subscription...I'm really sad the game turned out like this. I'm probably just going to finish up with my third alliance and call it quits :(

I really wanted this game to work out, I love the rest of the series but...oh well.

Wife and I initially unsubscribed, because of the lack of grouping in main quest-line instances, but we re-subscribed in the hopes they'd un-screw that aspect of this MMO. So we've been doing side-quests together, which don't force solo-instancing.

But if the bot piece continues to spiral out of control, we may well just cut sling and spend time together on SWTOR.

There are probably even regular people botting, for own in-game gain. Saw a botting video on Youtube where the guy that was responsible for the software said he used it himself in ESO for ingame gain. I hope he gets incontinence or worse.

Same problem here, my husband and I literally yelled at each other because we couldn't coordinate during group play. He stopped playing long ago, we're both looking forward to playing WildStar now.

Yep love the game, getting really sick of bots. They are every where even starting island and not just dungeons anymore. Getting really hard to harvest anything out in the open world.

Zenimax, this game is officially on the tipping point. Are you going to let it die? Band-Aid "fixes" that punish the players don't hurt the botters at all. They just keep coming, they'll just keep growing in number until you do something.

Telling us, "Report those bots guys!!" Does not fix anything at this point. For each one you ban, a bot with the same name takes its place. This is on your end, Zenimax.

Taking on bots reminds me somewhat of the Sherriff taking on M0ngo.

Edit: Seriously? "M0ngo" is a banned word? What is wrong with you people?

I don't think it is releated to maintenance since i play on EU server and we will get same maintenance tomorrow. But i totally agree about bots infestation. Today i made an alt and saw 4-5 different type bot groups. Some of them even was flying. Some was teleporting between quest givers. Some were typical dungeon farming, some especially these groups are like 10s of them everywhere which runs in couples or more and kills only. Some groups runs in circles and grind nods. I have to say that sadly, i saw more bots than real players. They still have starting rags, names with one wowel or non with making no sense, mostly playing templar and using same spells.

I am afraid ZOS already gave up fight against bots, Blizzard fighted for long time but last a couple of years they gave up also. I left wow after 7 years only because of bots were everywhere, i hope i would not need to leave ESO also, because this is not looking good at all.

After the inn, they head to the stables and then to the alley between the inn and the mages guild and die.

The reason why they do is that is that they're collecting the bags for the Thane quest, suiciding at the last bag to return to the wayshrine to turn in the quest is the fastest route for them.

They all level up from lvl 2 to 3 when they turn in that quest. After that they use no-clip (they travel straight through the map!!!) towards the next quest in line where they have to follow the markers around town in a race.

I have seen a "tandem"/siamese-twin duo with two unique characters (gear, class...) and real names farming mobs and spamming them with that spear-attack.
I first hesitated, but then I still reported them (real name or not) even though I didn't know then that there were also real people using cheats (because that's what they are).
How low can these people possibly sink?

I would think the easiest fix for getting most of the botting sorted out is disabling the LUA API for the moment, yes this will hurt the entire community as that will mean mods/add-ons won't work for a while, but at least it will buy time to get rid of a lot of the bots for a while so they can find a real fix for this.

It's spiraling out of control fast at the moment. I had a couple of days where I barely encountered a single bot earlier this week, but now it's just insane.

I don't think the addon API has anything to do with this; the bots are separate programs being run on the same machine as the client. Disabling LUA would have no effect.

What DOES need to happen, though, is a load of stuff being done on the client side needs to be backloaded onto the servers. This is why the bots can speedhack, fly, and noclip -- the servers 'trust' the clients too much.* Once that's done, many of the more aggravating aspects of bots will be controlled, and more directed anti-bot measures can be undertaken.

But the client needs to be locked up ASAP. They're probably deciding that it's better that some (most?) of the players be able to play rather than shut down the servers completely. Beyond that, I have suspicions as to what they're doing or going to be doing but all this is sheer silly speculation, and I could be dramatically wrong. :)

    * - I suspect this is why the console version is being delayed -- they need to rewrite the client so it doesn't do so much frontloading. It's easier to trust a console client than a PC client, and the game was possibly written that way, with the results you see.

rivenspire had been practically bot free for a week, today its full of teams of 30 plus bots anywhere near a wayshrine. glad im done with the area and got to enjoy it they way it was scripted to be seen. i feel sorry for anyone trying to get their quests done thru the lvling herd bots

It is kinda scary, i think this should be the priority not adding new content. Maybe disabling API, or hire some GMs to monitor these places and ban these bot accounts. A simple math shows 40 bots in 2 mins, 1200 in 1 hour and total 28800 bots in a day. This number shows something must be done, immediately and permanent.

There was a long thread about this a while back. Turning off the addon API wouldn't do jack squat.

Just because one API allows far more does not mean that the addon API for eso does. The ESO addon API is very limited in what you can do with it. You can not, for example with an addon tell the character to move. Or even gather stuff, or speedhack.. or any of the things that bots do (with bot software that is not even remotely related to ingame addons)

Alot of the people currently developing addons for ESO probably know far more about the API that addons use than you.

(edited post because a mod edited out a quote from a now deleted post, basically someone got mad saying that he knew about this stuff since he had done his own api for something.. whatever that might be)

ZOS deafening silence on the topic says it all. They have not even truly acknowledged there is a problem. At least I have seen no official statement to the fact.

Yes, a few band-aid procedures have been halfheartedly applied. This uncanny silence however ( in me) awakens the suspicion that; either ZOS has no clue what to do, or that they are unwilling to have the game undergo massive surgery.

There is no daub that successfully getting rid of the Bots will mean the loss of potentially tens-of- thousands of accounts and consequently the loss of revenue.

Right now I tend to think (just my opinion and money talking) only if more revenue gets lost by players leaving the game because of the Bots then revenue is generated by keeping the bots, things will change.

Agreed. I've never seen one thread on this subject answered to by a GM. Not one. I just think they're okay with it, the gold sites pay for the accounts (w stolen credit cards) so ZOS still makes money.

I wonder if phasing has anything to do with the bot problem. There were at least two active, talking, real GMs in Windhelm yesterday without a bot in sight. I thought that was the reason. You know. Banned bots and all that. Then my friend came to see the GMs because the friend thought I was lying. To the friend's perspective, standing next to me as nothing more than a floating grouping arrow over an invisible space, there were bot trains within targeting range all over and no GMs at all. A few minutes later, the friend traveled to me to get in the same phase. Presumably, the friend let the GMs know because shortly after, they disappeared.

    Edited for clarity, sorry.
