no ToT card clues (although that's improving now)

Issue 2: I'm supposed to post this discussion in the 'game systems' forum, but I fear I'll never get a response that way. (I did post something there, but there it sits, with no responses.) But, if I post here, Zos will probably move the conversation, meaning I'll never get help. Hopefully this post can stay here? Ugh

Issue 1: I never get card clues for upgrades from ToT. I've been doing the daily for 5 straight days, and not a single clue. Am I missing something? The matches, although sort of fun ... sort of ... are kind of long, and a bit boring. And I'm missing something like 14 clues. So I can't go on like this. I'm not THAT crazy about the card game.

Anyway, here's hoping this thread doesn't get moved where few will see it

edit: it seems that Zos has allowed this to stay here, and i've got some good helpful responses so far (no responses from the specific ToT forum where i first posted), so thank you

From the couple of friends that actually played ToT until they completed all achievements, got all the unlocks etc, I gather that the drop rate of fragments (Heavily Played Tribute Cards / Scraps of the Spearhead's Colors) and clues is atrocious.

Of course wherever 'merciless' (no pity mechanics) RNG applies YMMV but in their case it was a multi-month affair of 'daily dailies' to get it complete, and it was the aforementioned 'chase' what forced them to keep going long after they had completed all other achievements.

Long story short, if you don't love ToT and you are not plagued by s**o-m**********c urges it is likely that you will burn out long before you complete this 'chase'.

My friends were both fans of TES Legends and both play IRL card games (magic and the likes) regularly which made it somewhat tolerable for them.

EDIT: Weekly vendors (IA/IC) might carry clues as well I think? I am not 100% sure because is not something that interests me but I want to remember having seen clues in their inventories before. Might be worth looking into.

    According to this guide:

    https://eso-hub.com/en/guides/clues-tales-of-tribute-how-to-find-them

All clues drop from ToT reward boxes:

To get clues you simply need to play the game. Because the Card Clues drop from Tribute reward boxes. You will have to play lots of matches, the drop rate is fairly low. In our case we got about 1 Card Clue every 10 matches.

At least these 25 (scroll down to 'Tales of Tribute Clues'):

I recently completed (almost) everything of Tales of Tribute.

Card upgrade clues drop from every reward level green or better. But it takes time to complete them...

Five NPC-dailies are not very much. I started with only one character, it took ages to get a single clue drop. Every two weeks one clue drop. Then I started to play with three characters doing the NPC-Dailies, got one clue drop a week.

Spearhead Scraps and Heavily Played Tribute cards dropped before Update 46 from red and gold rewards for me, doing also pvp-dailies for the gold reward with three characters.

Since update 46, I already had seven Spearhead Scraps und six Heavily Played tribute cards, these two cards started to drop from gold rewards only!

I started to play with all my 13 characters the npc-dailies and the pvp-dailies for approximately two months and got one single drop for each played week from gold rewards only.
-That's 91 gold rewards a week for ONE single drop!-

I got the three missing spearhead cards first and later the four missing Heavily Played tribute cards in that order, seemed to be curated but might be by chance, don't know.

Everything else, Psijic clothes, other clothes, tapestries small and large, dropped from every kind of reward level, even green rewards.

But, the Spearhead Scraps and the Heavily Played tribute cards, since update 46, at least for me, they dropped from golden rewards only.

yes five dailies so far isn't very much. i think the issue is that i'd much rather play the game, rather than play the card game.

something i didn't mention in this post: i'm also seeking to complete the eiditic memory section that pertains to 'tomes of tribute', which is when you read the clues. i started a wild goose chase a couple of months ago seeking to find all of those books, and i'm near the end (have 45-ish left out of 5018), and tomes of tribute make up 14 of those. i know some other eiditic memory books are locked behind quests, which if completed can't be read until zos makes a post-quest location, so i suppose i can grin and bear a few more ToT dailies, since i can't complete eiditic memory anytime soon

so, because of that, i can't do ToT dailies on alts. i could, to get the cards, but my main wouldn't show the book as read. yeah, it's a wild goose chase and i need to keep perspective lol

Clues have an awful drop rate. Which daily are you doing? NPC or Player?

IA vendor sells a clue sometimes.

i'm doing the npc daily. games with players ... in my experience, they tend to be longer, and i tend to lose, so i avoid them. but maybe the coffer is better?

Of course the coffer is better! ;)

First win of the day per character against another player gives one gold coffer.

Additionally, if you take the pvp-dailiy, the rewards per character are:

One win = one blue coffer
Two wins = one purple coffer
Three wins = one golden coffer

So, if you take the pvp-dailiy and win your first game and complete the daily pvp-quest with that one win, you get two coffers.

The golden one per mail and the blue one from the daily questgiver.

And subsequent wins get you a blue one, compared to green for wins against NPCs.

As others have said, it is a better quality coffer. I'm speaking purely anecdotally (I have no evidence to back this up), but I remember getting few clues from NPCs and a lot from Player rewards.

    Congratulations!

Indeed, against players it's A-B-B-A when picking patrons, not A-B-A-B (or A-A-B-B? I forget).

I'd say my win rate against players is somewhere between a third and half. (Probably lower actually, given that I usually concede as soon as someone selects Rahjin or Almalexia, and I don't respond against the four-Patrons-winning-mechanic.) Given that you lose 100 points on a loss and gain 110, 210, or 310 points for a win (somehow based on how well you've won, but it's not transparent to me), that sub-50% win rate is still enough to progress through the tiers each month up to Rubedite. Not that ranking makes any difference to the rewards.

<checks in-game UI> To be honest I've never noticed that drop-down with the Ranked Competitive / Unranked Casual difference until you pointed it out :D.

Just tried an Unranked Casual match, and noticed that while the first win per character per day rewards a yellow Purse for either Ranked or Unranked, subsequent matches reward blue Purses for Ranked and green Purses for Unranked matches.

Whether Ranked is more competitive than Unranked I couldn't say from one match. I don't experience Ranked as especially competitive in a 'social' sense, as it's still effectively anonymous, without trash-talking or griefing except in very, very rare cases, in my personal experience (PC-EU).

It's certainly not so immediately unpleasant that I would warn you away from simply giving Ranked matches a go for a while and seeing yourself if you find them harder or not.

i did a ranked match yesterday. yes, well i did 2 pvp matches, the first an unranked, in which i lost 2 matches then finally won, and got a gold coffer with a clue(!), and then a second that was ranked, in order to fulfill the next part of the daily and to see how a ranked match might differ, but i lost, tossed in the towel and handed my daily in.

today, i've done 1 pvp match, ranked, and i won on the first try, handily i might add, and i got a gold coffer, and low and behold it had a clue! so that's 2 clues in 2 days. on a roll! (or beginner's luck)

i'll do more ranked matches today, to completely fulfill the daily, and because i'm curious as to where it goes. i'm getting clues at the very least, so i'm intrigued
