Put 2-team and 3-team format BGs into the same queue

Keeping the Solo/Group queue options for Competitive and Casual, I think that the team format should be able to change depending on the number of players queued.

We know that Competitive queues have teams of 4 players, and Casual queues have teams of 8 players. For reference, this is how many players would be required for each format:
  • Competitive 2-team: 4v4 = 8 players
  • Competitive 3-team: 4v4v4 = 12 players
  • Casual 2-team: 8v8 = 16 players
  • Casual 3-team: 8v8v8 = 24 players

So, I propose that when queuing for Competitive, if there are >= 12 players in that queue, the 3-team mode should be selected, otherwise it will try to fill for the 2-team format. Similarly, when queuing for Casual, if there are >= 24 players in that queue, the 3-team mode would be selected, otherwise it will try to fill for the 2-team format.

This would mean that during active hours, it would be possible to play in 3-team matches again. When there aren't enough players for 3-team matches, then 2-team matches would be held instead.

    This is an interesting offer for those who don't care what they play. However, these are different modes and they cannot be mixed.

    This wouldn't work, as in, it wouldn't function.

    If you create a queue like that, the 3 team mode would never get selected, because every time the queue would get to 8 or 16, a match would pop. You'd have to have the system decide at the moment the person queues if the system would hold the person long enough for the 3 team option to fill.

    If you count up from 0, you never reach 24 without passing 16, right? So the queue would never have enough players to bypass that game mode. You would need to make them separate queues.

    Yes, that was the idea. A new person joining the queue could refresh some internal countdown to 1 minute; if there are at least 16 players in the casual queue, the queue has 1 minute (or some other length of time deemed appropriate) until it queues for a 2-team match — but if a 17th player joins the queue, the timer is reset. Essentially, if players join the queue fast enough, it will have enough for a 3-team match, in which case that will be the mode selected.

    Frankly, as much as I see people saying they prefer 2-team to 3-team or vice versa, splitting those formats into separate queues only serves to divide the playerbase.

    Remember when they only had Deathmatch and Objective queues, but they pulled from the same pool? It was always Deathmatch because there were always people in the DM queue; the same would apply here. You'd either never get 3 team, or you'd never get 2 team if you have the system bias the 3 team. Either way, combining them into 1 queue doesn't work.

    They should just get rid of 4v4 and put in 4v4v4; 4v4 is a failed experiment with a poorly designed leaderboard, poorly designed maps and gamemodes (the life token mode is a joke), and pretty awful balancing since 1 healer decides the entire match.

    Do you play 8v8 group? Does anybody play 8v8 group? The simple, and apparently unobtainable, solution to nearly everybody's posts re: Battlegrounds is to add in a single 4v4v4 solo queue back in. I think as long as there are players who remember three team bg's people are going to keep asking for it back. Its been 8 months and the only feedback we've received re: getting 4v4v4 reinstated was an extremely condescending PvP Q&Q non answer found in this thread pinned above

    What with all the Microsoft layoffs and having their staff cut I doubt our concerns re: this topic will be addressed anytime soon, they didn't see fit to address them before, why start now, but I'm glad people are keeping the conversation going. Keep the dream alive 😎

    Of course this suffers the issue of you had the ability to select Deathmatch (1 match type)
    or RANDOM (Any match type).

    So out of 12 players, 11 choose RANDOM and 1 choose Deathmatch, guess what, it deathmatch.
    same issue with the 2 or 3 team mode....

    I'm agreeing with you, just further explaning the issues.
