Server Performance for MYM has been really poor

I don't know if Zos just dusted off the old servers and decided to deploy them for MYM, but it certainly seems that this is what they did, because the server performance is even worse than your average non-event day in Blackreach or Grey Host - and with far less people populating the server. I've been playing Evergloam primarily to take advantage of some AP bonuses, and even with the server at minimal bars, I get frame rate drop and rubber banding, I've been kicked from server a few times, and skills are not firing when I want them to fire. Overall, the server performance has been really really poor. I'm not the only one who has complained about this, as I've had guildies experience the same issues. But this is definitely the worst I have seen the servers in the past 3 months.

I agree, the performance has been MUCH worse than in previous MYM. What's odd to me too is that it feels like they lowered the pop cap. I have no data to back this up but I've never done a MYM before that felt this dead. Aside from the 1-2 hours during prime time the rest of it's just... nothing. I played for 4 hours last night and literally there was only one keep fight that happened during the whole thing - and when it did performance was brutal.

I didn't have any rubberbanding or anything and it's somewhat hard to describe. It almost feels like server fps is nuking... then my FPS nukes shortly after. I'm running a 4090 with a 7800X3D and I can keep a constant 90-100 fps in GH no problem.

This MYM I'm lucky if I'm above 35. Something changed...

Performance is atrocious. On several occasions now I’ve had the server freeze where I’m running around (invisible) but the entire world is frozen for about a minute or so before I crash.

On top of that, random 999+ lag spikes and fps dropping from 100 to single digits suddenly.

Anyone else remember when Cyrodiil performance would magically get better for MYM events?

Ya, performance tanked on June 25th and hasn't rebounded. I'm 100% sure ZOS knows what changes they made to cause this. They've been tagged about it at least 20 times on this forum and many of us have filed support tickets in game about it. Nothing but canned responses and blame shifting from customer service.

Yeah, performance has been notably worse this time around while MYM has typically been the best periods we experience.

I don't know that it's purely Cyrodiil, though. My Guildies have mentioned things being ''sticky'' in overland content of late, too.

I do know that a single Ball Group or especially two+ at a time are just chewing things up like crazy in Cyrodiil this week, way more than normal. I typically have really good framerate but this week it's been an occasional unplayable slide show when they're doing their Ball-y things during primetime.

For what it is worth - I typically can have stable frames and minimal (almost no) lag when 3 or more ball groups are near me.

Just saying that because the second a ball group gets mentioned everyone gets fixated on that being the "cause" when.. ball groups just show the inefficiences of systems.. they aren't the true "cause".. if that makes sense.

Performance has been bad with frame drops even before MYM, now it's even worse. Dropping from 100 to 20 frames when before the last few patches I could maintain at least 80 frames in cyro at all times. It's not me or my rig.

Hi all, if you are having issues in MYM, could you note where you are playing from and add any footage you may have? We escalated this internally, but our graphs are not showing any issue with server health. It is all within margin. So any additional data you can provide, would be helpful. We can send that over to the team to assist in investigating this issue.

    I actually experienced this today.

I don't usually PvP because I don't really like to be biting the dust over and over in <= 2 GCDs, it really is no good for my self-esteem, alas this evening there was another group of equally (under)skilled players around and we had time to kill while low pop popped somewhere else so we decided to do 'the PvP thing' for a bit.

It would have been fun if it wasn't for the (repeated) 999+ spikes that froze everything for 10s+

And it wasn't just a 'me thing' because I didn't 'resync' to a grey screen, I was 'alive' and so was everyone else around me.

    Shame really...

EDIT: Sadly I don't have footage but this was in Ashpit, sieging BRK around 6PM BST, in PC/EU.

No 'ball groups' or 'zergs' involved, this was like maybe 20 players total engaging in an 'uncoordinated brawl'.

Most of the issues I’ve run into this Midyear—honestly even in the weeks leading up to it—have been frame rate-related. Lag feels about the same as usual, but the FPS drops have been extreme. I’ll admit I use quite a few addons, but even after disabling most of them and only keeping the bare minimum I’m comfortable playing with, there was no improvement. There’s definitely something going on, especially in those massive fights involving hammers and scrolls.

My frames will tank to 10–20 FPS, which I’ve never experienced before. I’m running a Ryzen 9 5900X and a 4080 Super. I know the CPU is technically one generation old, but it’s still a very strong processor and had no trouble handling Cyrodiil until the most recent update.

I have done about 10 different tests on my computer with results sent to your support team. No change. I get fps drops from 120fps(limited) down to 10fps in some places in cyrodiil with many people around after june 25th this year.
Before june 25th i had fps drops to about 50fps in the same pla es with the same people amount around me.

Everything I'm seeing is related to fps drops. I'll record some stuff tonight and send it in.

(My hardware W11, 4090, AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64gb ram. No background tasks running when playing *that I'm aware of)

For those having issues - are you on Windows 11?

I haven't done this fix yet but going to do some testing tonight without this fix.. then try this and see if there is a difference. Curious to see if for some reason this issue is manifesting itself more in GH than other areas and thats why there are more complaints.

performance is especially bad when trying to use melee builds. More so than usual. I play pvp all the time and I have done entire streams for Whitestrakes and Its incredibly frustrating trying to land melee skills, they don't go off. Not exactly sure where the problem lies but here is a stream where within the first encounter I die to a cc bug (cant break free) https://youtube.com/live/mNpRiL-m2do?si=J5qAp2Xt8Nhi69AZ and the cc bug has been RAMPANT during this event as well. Ill have proper stamina management and I just am not allowed to break free.
As the stream goes on, I fuss a bit about how my skills dont fire and nothing will cast, and you can see it in the stream if you watch it a bit.
(Side note stage 4 will also not register for some reason randomly, though this has been an issue for about a year now.)

I also have a bunch of other streams as well where I have the same issues but that stream I have linked is a good example pretty quickly of the general issues folks are talking about in this thread.

There is also the FPS Drops. this event has been horrible for them, and I have even lowered my game quality to 480p with every setting turned as low as possible for the memes and still have fps drops.

Bow builds/ ranged builds seem fairly reliable (more reliable than melee) in whitestrakes mayhem but they are not free from this performance either. you cast a skill from range and then seconds later it goes off when you don't event press the button, and the time for it to deal damage after casting can be anywhere from 1 second to 5 seconds before you see the numbers above the enemies heads. I have been desynced by and have desynced people with this a lot this event.

Also I play from North Carolina if that helps.

The issue with framedrops is not limited to Cyrodiil, since June 25 maintenance FPS drop everywhere in the game. I figured out, that for some reason ESO randomly started to spike CPUs which in turn results in Framedrops from 100 to 20. Its also unrelated to the type of CPU, doesn't matter if its old or brand new, not even the core number matters, it just happens to everyone.

Maybe something is wrong with the multithreading, but I am not an expert there.

    Agreed.

Server lag has gotten noticeably poorer not only in Cyrodiil but in PvE lands since the last server maintenance. It should not take a half a second to mount in non PvP areas.

    That's not the case.

If you think there may be an issue with multithreading, have you tried disabling/enabling it to see if there's any difference?

Really wondering if my above post is the case.

If you come to this thread.. go to your usersettings.text and search for "MaxCores".

Here are what mine got reset to somehow:
    SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "-1"
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "-1"
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "-1"

See what those values are for the MaxCores, RequestedNumJobThreads, and RequestedNumWorkerThreads (these are right under the MaxCores).

If yours somehow got set to -1 make a change based on my previous post in this thread.

I'm making the change now and will report back the experience @ZOS_Kevin

Why specifically 3/4 and 2/3? I have 6 cores, why should i only use 4.5, soo 5 as an integer? (also doesn't -1 mean basically use them all?)

To chime in with my $0.02, it's not just Cyrodiil. I usually get a solid 60FPS in most PvE zones (latency is typically 100 or a bit less; geographic proximity to the NA servers would be my best guess for that), but I was pulling intermittent 40s in both Rimmen and Wayrest without seeing significant differences in the usual player populations. This is both the in-game frame counter and Steam's game client counter, so two sources are giving similar numbers and I'm inclined to give them a bit more credence than just one. Cyrodiil has been a bit better than that (Blackreach, Ashpit, and Evergloam). It's not horrendous, but it's noticeable. I haven't been dropped from a Cyrodiil campaign due to server issues, but I have been dropped from PvE zones because of them. Relaunching and relogging hasn't been a problem.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

My suggestion would be to actually disable all of them. Even the libraries. ESPECIALLY the libraries in fact. Some of those are really going haywire with this patch, I think. Enable them when you want to do some simple stuff like crafting and whatnot and then turn them back off before you try to do anything involving combat. It significantly helped my issues. It wasn't perfect but it was much better than when I had them on. I was getting like single-digit framerates with them on while in Cyrodiil. Disabling everything got me back up to the thiry-to-fourty FPS range when dealing with big fights.

Well... I'm trying to figure out if the fix works but I've been in 2 for two hours and it's barely moving.

@ZOS_Kevin we really need some action on the whole afk macros going down during MYM.. it gets worse every MYM. Just looking at all the random people around light attacking every 30 seconds, etc for hours until they come back from dinner or whatever they are doing. Literally 20-30 of them a night.

I play from Southeast Asia on PCNA GH.

So far I’ve had two occasions of everyone except me being frozen in time for a minute before I disconnect. Once was while all alliances were poplocked and I was in a 12 person group during a large fight at Sejanus (side note, is that random loading screen that always happens between Sejanus and BRK ever going to go away?) and once was while approaching Roebeck mine in a group with four others and AD and EP were one bar with DC three bars, no fight going on.

When it happens, it looks like this reddit post. So while it’s not limited to MYM it does seem to happen more frequently:

That said, this issue only started happening after the most recent update—something definitely changed, because I never had these kinds of frame drops before.

    UPDATE:

The tweak I posted fixed my issue. I've ran into multiple ball groups and it's night and day difference. I guess it's something to do with the recent Windows11 update and the settings file and how it allocates the cores.

    Nevermind

I would imagine that those values are somewhat architecture-specific.

Like, I wouldn't want the game trying to run on Intel eCores or across chiplets on certain AMD processors.

Not that that applies to you on a 7800x3D, though.

What all was your experience like with those settings?
