Extremely Low Midyear Mayhem Turnout, Why?

Every time I go to join the main campaign it's pop locked. That sounds like it's busy no?

I do my ticket quests in a 7 day campaign so I'm not inconveniencing pvpers, and there's less chance of ganking etc, but Greyhost is always full

    Two reasons:

    1. Reduced PvP population (dwindling every year)
    2. Way too many campaigns that spreads out an already small PvP population. ZOS should close majority of the temporary midyear campaigns if they show no signs of being locked or closed to pop locked during the most active hours.

Same reason why other areas of the game are feeling dead. It's because Multiclassing, and most likely poor reception to the new content model. I stopped playing as soon as U46 dropped because I knew Multiclassing would damage the game too much. You don't need to multiclass in PvP, but Animal Companion, Assassination, and Storm Calling is definitely the meta setup, and I bet players would rather deal with pre U46 magsorcs than this new setup a lot of people want to use and are just skipping out. A lot of PvEers who do like PvP aren't playing either because subclassing has made everything except 1 setup useless. No point in playing the class you like anymore in PvE because you're going to be at the very least 20% less effective than the worst player using the meta setup.

It's not event fatigue, unappealing event rewards, or some external force of nature. Last year, even with the server issues, had a lot more activity despite also having unappealing event rewards and the same amount of events next to each other.

Its really so boring in pvp, every good setup is the same.

Because I do not see this as PvP, ESO's PvP is more of a slaughterfest. Personally I just get my tickets and leave as fast as possible. Most players in these PvP modes are not looking for real PvP matches anyways, but for people they can insta-kill/gank.

My guess is there are three main reasons for barely anyone going into PvP:
1: Vengeance. The vengeance tests have shown many players PvP should be fair, and what fair PvP feels like. No longer being able to accept the state of the current PvP.
2: Subclassing/updates: Every time ZOS updates/changes the game, in this case with a major feature like subclassing, players have to keep their builds up to date. PvE players are not going to keep PvP builds up to date all the time, especially not with even more changes coming soon, just to play PvP for a week or two. PvP should be more accessible for everyone and not gearbased.
3: The PvP just isn't fun!

    Tickets and I'm out!

My opinion is some player are staying away because of Vengence.

They think that if that is the way PVP is going then why should they even bother.

The issue is that to keep both sets of player happy they will need to have campaigns as they are now and an extra Vengence one to keep pure PVPers happy.

If you do your research it has already been commented that Vengence is just a testing platform and isn't the way they want to go with it.

But they have let the genie out of the bottle now so maybe they will have too.

Personally, if it gets all the toxic players onto tht campaign I am all for it.

I sometimes get lucky and manage to take out a PVPer.

How do I know they are a PVPer? They start to call me all the names under the sun and threaten to report me because their build is infallible so I must be cheating.

    Never been banned yet ;)

    The rewards just aren't there.

Pvp is a shell of what it used to be.

Event fatigue is probably the reason for some though i would guess not many. This includes vengeance.

Few people are interested in playing against the way zos wants people to play pvp, namely ball groups and bombers, and the broken sets that reinforce these playstyles.

    To name a few.

I don't want the dwarven spider mount, so I don't need event tickets, and it overlaps with a golden pursuit and 2 events in Guild Wars 2 at what's generally a busy time of year for me, so it's dropped off my list of priorities for when I can get online.

Although during PvP events I usually just do the bare minimum to get tickets and leave again, so I'm not sure it makes a difference to anyone else. (I don't mind PvP, I'll play it when I feel like it, but I don't go out of my way to do it for events.)

Multiclassing, ball groups and lags. On top of it no one is inviting to groups even if the campaign is locked.

So I do a few quests in one or two settlements to get the event tickets and a few boxes and leave after that.

I usually jump into Mayhem and often PvP in between, but honestly - I'm fed up with IC, and I haven't adapted my Magsorc to Subclassing yet. I'm not even sure how I'll adapt to it yet. And since there's a new patch in the pipeline that might weigh in heavily for Sorc I certainly won't be wasting effort on theorycrafting before the patch is here.

I'll still jump into Cyro a little and zerg surf I guess, but certainly not as much as I otherwise would.

Like many, all I do is a quick quest in Cheydinhal and another one in imperial city for my tickets and then leave this nightmare. Usually take less than 15min, even than 10 sometimes.

I'm busy with the Rush event (equivalent of MYM) in World vs World (equivalent of Cyrodiil) in a different made-up world.

And since I'm currently spoiled with 50ms pings and zero disconnects, I don't really feel the need to come back to the cheapest tier akamai connections where 200ms means it's a good day.

Several reasons for me. Definitely nothing to do with Vengeance. I'd love to be PvPing during this event, but the game is too laggy and subclassing has made the sort of impression I dreaded it would.

It's far too laggy for me in game generally, which rules Cyro out because larger battles will freeze me up beyond being able to do something or have fun. BGs are less laggy but certainly not good for fighting in.

I'm on a pure build meeting opponent teams that often have zoo builds which also seems to bring lag and subclass builds that hit a lot harder than I can. I'm not interested in subclassing just for an event. Even if I was, I wouldn't make a build just now, as we're still testing Vengeance and getting "balance" changes to combat skills/gear. I'm not interested in constantly changing builds and re-making them.

What does worry me is even when I win battles in BGs and do well on my pure classes, PvP just isn't fun. It's just even lamer overpowered templates and far too many pets. I say that as a player who always likes pets and PvPs with them. I'm genuinely embarrassed to have a Warden when I see the zoo builds cluttering up a fight.

I might try my NB in IC for a bit and see how that goes. But I think PvP is about done for me now, even if I subclassed it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. A year ago I was having a lot more fun even with the imbalances we had and lag.

The events in Eso are extremely boring because its the same same every year since I started playing Eso.
Same rewards every year but maybe a new stylepage that will cost 500 gold in a few days so I just buy them instead.

Double Telwar this event is the only kind of fun thing I get out of it.

For me it's because of the weather. Been so warm, and nice, so sitting in front of a pc, gaming, hasn't been something I prioritized.

Low pressure coming in today, so then it will be more gaming. For me autumn and winter are the gaming seasons, and rainy days in general, of course.

On PS/NA the Greyhost campaign is pop locked with a waiting list as other players have noted above. I am grateful for the additional campaigns. I do the daily quests in Cyrodiil and Imperial City on empty campaigns to get my event tickets and the event style page once per day drop and then log out. Having multiple campaigns makes it harder for the griefers/gankers to cover all the possible quest locations.

I usually enjoy Mayhem, but subclassing has just turned off my interest for anything serious.

Have been queuing for a BG a day to get some event things, but the BGs don't always fill. If BGs have trouble filling in an event, something must be off?

    One word:

    Multiclassing.

this is probably going to be a big one for most ppl. i stopped playing actively back in april when they made the announcement about solstice, season pass, subclassing and all that "good" stuff. all i do now is take a few mins each day to grab daily log in bonus and do the easy endeavors that can be done wherever i happen to be standing. normally if there's an event, i grab event tickets... but this time, i completely skipped it the first day. and did not even care. eso has become a really tedious chore for me now. forced myself to do my main account event tickets on friday. yesterday (saturday) managed to force myself to do event tickets on both accounts. will be less tedious now that i have a toon in cyro and a toon in ic. i just leave them there for the duration of the event and there's less running around.

I've noticed less folk too. I think it's a factor of things. Multi classing, I certainly saw what folk are saying they feel outclassed in pvp

Another is a lot of folk are sick of how this event is handled. There's a lot of folk who would rather not pvp just to get tickets. It doesn't help when there's gankers picking on people just doing the event. Yes I know the whole debate but it's still a problem when you got folk who dont' wanna deal with getting killed just getting their tickets.

Other stuff folk have said it better than me

To add on to my post. I think a whole overhaul of the pvp system needs to be done. I was having this talk with server pals and we all agreed that removal of a reason to gank would improve a lot of things. By that I mean can't get Tel Var/ap from killing players. Have to find ways to earn it more. More rewards too would improve things a lot. New dyes, emotes, mini's or something. Maybe even rare crafting mats.

An instance of a pve only cyro and pve only IC would also go a long way for many that would love to do that or get rid of the pve aspects of Cyro and IC. Why I think battlegrounds is a bit better than Cyro

I'm not a PvPer, so I pretty much always do the bare minimum for PvP events. Having said that..

The campaign I've been entering for Cyrodiil to do my one quest for tickets is so dead that I was able to go into the enemy big cities to turn in quests I'd had in my journal forever, so that was nice. Usually when I try that, I get killed.

How are you getting an event style page per day? I've done both an IC and Cyrodiil quest every day so far for event tickets, and I've received only 1 style page. Am I supposed to be getting one per day from the golden boxes? If so, something's broken for me. I thought I was just having lousy RNG.

It's rng based. Couple days I didn't even get pages.

Another idea, maybe some new pvp campaigns. Would go along with the overhaul of pvp. Maybe something similar to chaos ball, flags and relics but like on a larger scale where each alliance fights to capture the most resources. FF14 has something like that which can be fun when you know what you're doing

On the first day I got lucky RNG and got 1 style page from only doing one IC and one Cyrodiil quest. On every other day I did not get a style page from the first two boxes. I have found that doing one to three additional Cyrodiil quests with my typical RNG is getting me the event style page. YMMV. Since there are empty campaigns, I can find one town that is owned by the faction I am logged in on and do as many quests from a quest giver as it takes to get the event style page to drop.

    1. No real interest

    2. As said upthread, event fatigue. Sure, I could choose to not participate, but depending on the event, regular content may be swamped with event-players or may be utterly vacant of others. I'm having far more fun simply logging in for the daily calendar reward ... and then leaving to play in Skyrim or old-school Oblivion or any other game.

i barely play at all anymore and i have over 10k hours in the game. love what eso used to be. me and a lot of people i know who have a lot of time in the game feel the same: sick of getting excited for some cool changes only for the fun to get squashed out of the game in the next patch. we did update 35, kind of got over it. update 46 hit, fun, then with what is happening with update 47 we all kind of said "yeah im not doing another update 35". keeping an eye on forums and the pts page to see the final state of update 47 before i make a decision. but im not going to spend my time doing things in a game i might be walking away from in a couple of weeks. it's summer time afterall :)

Okay, good, sounds like nothing's broken. But this raises the reason why I won't be participating in the event once I hit 12/12 event tickets again. I've already bought the two fragments for the mount. Usually I'll spend additional tickets on the couple of style pages I still don't have and then continue to participate to get more tickets before the event is over, but since I've only received one page so far, I'm missing too many to do that.

IOW, the rewards just aren't compelling enough for me to participate further. This isn't limited to this event, though, but all of them. A golden pursuit wouldn't have done it for me because I participated in the last PvP event more than I would have without a golden pursuit. Afterwards, I regretted doing that. It wasn't a good use of my gaming time just to get a shiny. That's why I won't do more quests in Cyrodiil to get more style pages. In my view, there should be one guaranteed drop each day. The whole rewards system around events needs to be revamped.

You used to be able to gain AP at a much faster rate when population & capacity were a lot higher than today, and as a result 30 minutes of gameplay were enough to get a huge amount of Rewards for the Worthy in the mail, so much that you were almost guaranteed to get a style page every day.

If you want to earn a lot of low effort AP today, your best bet is probably still finding a campaign with an AP train. This will be one of the temporary campaigns, zone in and check if your side has a low population or a low score bonus. Even better if you can have both. These campaigns are pretty much deserted apart from a group of players who go from keep to keep, capturing them with (usually) no resistance.

Once you have a lot of reward boxes, the trick is to open them one by one until you get your daily style page, then stop. Save the rest to start opening them the following day, when you have a chance at a new style page.
