Steam Linking to ESO

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone else had issues linking their steam to their ESO account and had a workaround?

Basically, I have had an ESO account for years, and I have purchased it on steam Today so it is in the same place as the rest of my games (I know it still opens eso launcher but id like to boot it through my steam launcher)

I am unable to link my steam account to ESO, having tried two ways:

Option 1: Upon booting the game, I select "I have an existing PC/Mac Elder Scrolls Online Account". I go to "http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/link" and enter the code, to which it says "Error: There was a problem linking your account. Please try again later or contact support."

Option 2: I have tried doing it via "https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/account/linked_accounts" and linking my steam account but I get the error again.

I was wondering if there was any alternative way I could link my steam account to my ESO account?

I am waiting on a ticket to come back after they asked for proof of ownership (I sent a pic of my steam account details, wasn't sure what else?) but im still not sure how it could be fixed remotely when I need to link both things by being logged in)

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

    I had a familiar issue (in my case, I was trying to unlink the game from the old Steam account and link it to the new one).
    ZOS customer support told me that they can't help with that because the problem is on the Steam side, and I have to either write to Steam support or create a new account.
    Guess what the Steam support told me? "We can't help; the problem is on the game's side".
    Now, I abandoned my 3-year-old account and started a new one to be able to play via new Steam account :/
