Why can't companions Bash?

Kind of annoying doing a world boss only to get killed by an interruptible animation the target cannot break free from while the companion sits there just thwacking watching you die. (In this case Wuyuvus)

My melee companions bash and interrupt all the time; ranged do not. Maybe try a melee companion to see if that helps.

Had them unarmed so they should count as melee.

Hmm, dunno then. I watch them bash and interrupt all the time, so maybe it is something specific to that boss.

My sword and board tank companion bash/interrupts bosses pretty regularly. Not 100& of the the time but even a good player can't do that and some bosses have mechanics that seem designed to frustrate tanks. . . because, you know, we have too many tanks in this game. :D
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

Hmm, I was using Ember, so maybe companions have "dispositions". Or maybe unarmed wasn't considered. If ever I stumble across a sword and board/2H I'll experiment.

I see Azandar bash in IA quite frequently.

But then too there are times I could swear I've seen my Runebreak synergy fire earlier than it should, and as far as I know companions don't trigger synergies.

They don't? Huh. Would've figured (but IG probably not given that could infringe on other players.

Come to think of it. If I had to venture a guess, a companion's proclivity to bash/interrupt probably works with the same mechanic as their Light Attacks. Companions only light attack when none of their skills can fire due to being on cooldown or special conditions are not met. So I would imagine that bashing probably works the same way.. no skills can fire, target has red squigly spidey sense, then bash. If no red squiglies, light attack.

    But again.. complete speculation.

Hmm, I do run full Quickened. But you'd expect bash to take priority when in range.

They definitely have a cooldown on interrupting. It's most noticeable soloing certain world bosses that need interrupted more frequently like Harvesters. The companion will interrupt every other time leaving me to interrupt the one in between. I'll have to time it sometime when I am bored.

I use Bastian with a one hand and shield, he constantly bashes/interupts.

One of the sword and shield companion skills is called "bashing bulwark" it does have a 16 sec standard cooldown but obviously that can be reduced. 🙂

Oh they absolutely do bash, but they need to be in melee range (they wont run up to a mob that need to be bashed) and actively target the casting mob. If they are aggroed on another mob and other mobs is casting near them, they will not change targets to bash. Not to mention their bash and dodge has a cooldown.
