An idea for a new game mode.

So I have an idea for a new game mode. It's inspired by hell tides in Diablo 4.

Waves of mass enemies. I think it could be fun and challenging with unbelievable hordes.
I know people complain about the game being too easy. But instead of making individual enemies harder, why not have a mode with hordes of enemies?
This would give us an opportunity to use our AOE and sets like Macabre Vintage to their full fun capacity.

This reminds me of Skyreach Catacombs when you bring all of the enemies into the same room. It's not particularly challenging to defeat them all, though.

Each wave would have to get progressively more difficult.
    There could be leaderboards too.

Kinda like the Pit in D4 or great rifts from D3.

We all know people have complained about the lack of difficulty scaling in this game.
Something like this would give something challenging for those people.

I think there's a point where the number of enemies is immaterial and an optimized player would be able to defeat any number with no effective upper limit.

At that point the horde enemies HAVE to be buffed in some way just to breach the wall of sustain and damage that can effectively be maintained endlessly.

But here's the rub-- if we make horde enemies JUST strong enough to create a numbers deficit at the highest end of the optimized player bell curve, that makes them EXTREMELY difficult for anyone else to survive even a single round.

The only option in design is to slowly increase both numbers and strength of individuals in the horde. Probably in different steps. In sets of 10 for simplicity:
    • Round 1
      • 10 Waves per round
      • Horde size increases each round
    • Round 2
      • Horde size resets at +1
        • Round 2, Wave 1 horde size is now the same as Round 1, Wave 2
        • Wave 10 will be one step above Round 1 Wave 10
      • Strength of horde increases
      • Horde size increases each round
    • Round 10
      • First wave size is now equal to Round 1, Wave 10
      • Horde Strength is significantly increased
    • Repeat ad nauseam

At this point it's probably too similar in scope to Infinite Archive, so unless more gameplay objectives were added beyond 'survive,' I don't think it would be considered for development.
Thank you for coming to my T E D talk

But many of us don't want more difficulty.

so like the Infinite Archive or Blackrose Prison?

people complain about story quest bosses not being challenging enough to them, right? overland quest bosses.
This doesn't really solve that and personally sounds even more tedious than the Archive's stage monsters.

also if i guessed right and this is about Overland Difficulty it will likely be closed with a redirect to the feedback thread.

There are plenty of options for those seeking challenging content, just not overland which isn't aimed at that section of the playerbase. If ZOS find a way of giving those players an optional difficulty increase then fine, except that I'm willing to bet that they won't like what they're given especially if they don't get a commensurate reward that will then make it no longer worthwhile to do the existing challenging content. If they do get such a reward then that will dilute even further the players actually engaging in the harder group dungeons and trials in respect of which endgame players are already complaining about falling numbers. I don't think there's a simple answer, but having hordes of high level mobs appearing in the overland zones certainly isn't it.
