Is there a cap on the total amount of damage shielding you can have active?

Can’t find this info anywhere online.

Is there a cap on the total amount of damage shields that you can stack? Like I know that specific shields are capped based on % of your total health or whatever, but can you stack shields from like 5-6 different sources and get 200+% your health in shielding?

    No, there is no total cap.
    You can layer as many shields as you'd like. They are additive.

    I have seen a subclassing tank build with a 160k (total) shield, just as an example.

    One counter to Damage Shield stacking is to attack with Oblivion Damage, which bypasses Damage Shields and Armor. Unfortunately there aren't too many sources of Oblivion Damage in the game.

    One counter to Damage Shield stacking is to attack with Oblivion Damage, which bypasses Damage Shields and Armor. Unfortunately there aren't too many sources of Oblivion Damage in the game.

    Heal Absorption and Oblivion Damage are definitely two very under-utilized mechanics in the game.

    Of course, it requires thoughtful balance. Otherwise you can have a repeat of the Sload's Incident. But the current tuning of Oblivion Damage sources has gone way too far in the other direction, such that it is basically useless.

    Came to say something similar. Shields and heal stacking are already a problem. Subclassing will only make it worse as someone can shield stack AND put out a reasonable amount of damage, all while the group heal stacks.

    PVP is supposed to be about killing opponents with skills in the game. Not from sheer boredom and quitting.

    Oh god... I forgot about the Sload's Incident, every death recap in both battlegrounds and cyrodil was just stacks of Sload's :'(

    I personally think all damage shields that grant a huge shield immediately on cast should be 1-2 seconds long at most (like Arcanist damage shield), while other damage shields should be changed to be 10+ seconds or a toggle ability where you start with no damage shield, but each second the ability is active, your damage shield increases by X amount, building up to a maximum of X% of your max health

    You shouldn't be able to cast a single damage shield ability and instantly get 60% max health as a damage shield for 6 seconds, it's just too oppressive in PvP and will be insane when we get subclassing and sorcs optimize for it. The way they treated Arcanist damage shield is the correct way to allow huge instant cast damage shields to exist, by making them last for like 1 seconds before reducing to a lower amount for several seconds thereafter.
