Heal Absorption and Oblivion Damage are definitely two very under-utilized mechanics in the game.
Of course, it requires thoughtful balance. Otherwise you can have a repeat of the Sload's Incident. But the current tuning of Oblivion Damage sources has gone way too far in the other direction, such that it is basically useless.
