I know a lot of people were hoping it might go on sale with Subclassing coming soon.

I've already bought the maximum number of Armory slots. I figure they're more worthwhile than character slots, at least for how I play the game.

Please give us Werewolf Skill Styles (for customizing our fur color), Grimoires/Scribing skills (to fill in the holes in our builds), and Companions (to transform with).

It's not a bad discount, but I thought they'd give us a free armory slot. Didn't they give us an extra character slot with the introduction of the Arcanist class?

I picked up a few of them since there was a significant discount, but with my uncertainty about subclassing I am unsure that I will need that many. This is too much of a shake-up to know how to plan.

Yeah, I don't disagree. Also, the armory is extremely basic for the price and inexplicably doesn't yet support scribing.

To players unaware, it is much better to use addons to change equipment and skills. Addons have more features and are easier/faster to use.

The benefit of saving a build with the Armory is that it also saves curse status, attribute/skill point allocation and quickslots. The armory is also better for drastic CP changes IMO. It's a convenient snapshot, but not something most players would need more than a few of. Currently I think the most I have on one character is 4.

Also consider that addons are coming to console.

Isn't that what a 'for profit' company does... seek profits... especially an MMO that needs constant income to maintain the game.

To a point, yes. The question (which none of us here can answer unless we have access to the detailed financials) is how much of that sale price goes to maintaining and developing the game, and how much goes to dividends and stock options. Does an extra armory slot really need to be as expensive as (in my case) 3 cups of coffee at my local cafe? I know what my answer to that question is; you'll need to decide what your personal break point is. I have no doubt that people are going to buy them, regardless.

    Edit: splng.

Thanks Desiato for the heads up. The combination of the 43% discount, discounted crowns from the Crown pack sales & the Crowns accumulated from subscription makes this a relatively cheap purchase. I've made sure every character has at least 2 empty Armory slots.

I'm preparing for Subclassing so this was very timely.

No sale on armory or outfit slots will interest me until there is an account-wide option and it's not so ridiculously overpriced.

Of course ZOS is a for-profit company. But when a value proposition is so bad, people will not pay even if they can. For the same reason most people will not buy ridiculous designer clothes even if they can afford it. But luxury brands do get enough people to buy them to be successful, even if it is a very risky and cyclical segment to be in.

If ESO continues to try to price itself as a luxury product compared to other gaming options, it's (lack of) general popularity will continue to be what it is. I think this is probably the intentional pricing strategy. They care more about maximizing revenue from a few loyal whales than they do about increasing general popularity. It's bizarre, but it seems to work okay for them. They muddle along, at least. With less and less content each year, and more and more crown store goodies.

I totally get not wanting to support something one may be ethically opposed to. I've never purchased crowns or crates out of principle. Plus the idea of being proud of an exclusive item one paid for with cash in a game is pretty meh to me.

But I also don't care about cosmetics, so I have crowns from my sub to spend. I use them on practical items, even though I disagree with the business model.

I took the sale as confirmation they have no plan in the foreseeable future to make armory slots account-wide.

Yup, I broke down and bought a few slots because I have a surplus of crowns, and clearly they don't plan on fixing this BS.
Will never buy them on full price though.
    Hoping for more playable races

I personally don't use the armory a lot, not only because it's not account-wide, but because it changes skill points as well, and I've gotten some things mixed a few times when trying to swap stuff before trials/BGs. Usually I just want a gear change for my toons, for which the addons work much better. I've only used it for having vampirism as an option for a couple of my toons without having to cure/redo the skill line. It's nice to have a sale though for those who use it, especially with subclassing in view.

    They still might on release.

I want to get a few extra while they're on sale but have no idea how many I'll actually need. Depending on how the meta settles, I may not even need any for a given class.

Not only that, but as another thread pointed out, if that character is deleted to make room for someone new, it is lost and cannot be recovered.

All around... a horrible value for the Crowns being asked.
