Thanks to “Golden Road”, and with the “Schola” (scripture), this is now even possible quite accurately, at least in terms of damage output.
There is a “practice room” (maps on the bottom left) in which you can bludgeon 3 mobs, each with 3,007,000 health points.
You send the companion to the mob by pressing a button (standard “Y” - “attack”),...without intervening in the fight yourself. As soon as the fight begins through the companion, you press “Start” on a stopwatch,...(don't say,...you don't have one?...Never mind)....
Then you make yourself a cup of coffee and watch comfortably while the companion completely deals with the selected mob. If you don't have any coffee or time (it can take a while...) to wait (after all, 3,007.K), you can also end the fight (e.g. by leaving the room or sending the companion away). Then, of course, press “Stop” and note the displayed (remaining) life of the mob you have mauled.
Then use the calculator to work out how much damage per second the respective companion has caused during the fight.
Of course, you can also do this in the open world, but there you rarely have the opportunity to have the mob “to yourself” or without additional disturbing “spawns”.
Example: Test with "Ember", bow epic, rest of blue gear, aggro and inspired, skill mix of bow and magic,
= approx. 4900 -5500 DPS
Test with “Zerith-Var”, two-hander, all epic, aggressive and penetration,
= approx. 5850-6250 DPS
Both tested 3x in a row and each complete kill (minimum 3 cups of coffee)
A quicker test and the calculation:
Fight stopped after time: 2:50 min / = 170sec.
Remaining health points of the NPC: 2,906,700 mil.
therefore damage caused during this time: 1,003,000 mil.
Calculation: 1,003,000 : 170 = 5,900
So 5900 dmg/sec. companion damage.
The longer the battle, the more accurate and less fluctuating the calculated results. And as far as I can see (not yet tested), this room in the Schola is an instance in which you are alone.
Could work on consoles as well as PC. On PC I can at least see that I could also assign a controller button to the companion attack.
You can find it under “Combat” in the settings.
I'm curious if, and what values you get out of it.
