Companion Damage measure (?)

Thanks to “Golden Road”, and with the “Schola” (scripture), this is now even possible quite accurately, at least in terms of damage output.
There is a “practice room” (maps on the bottom left) in which you can bludgeon 3 mobs, each with 3,007,000 health points.
You send the companion to the mob by pressing a button (standard “Y” - “attack”),...without intervening in the fight yourself. As soon as the fight begins through the companion, you press “Start” on a stopwatch,...(don't say,...you don't have one?...Never mind)....

Then you make yourself a cup of coffee and watch comfortably while the companion completely deals with the selected mob. If you don't have any coffee or time (it can take a while...) to wait (after all, 3,007.K), you can also end the fight (e.g. by leaving the room or sending the companion away). Then, of course, press “Stop” and note the displayed (remaining) life of the mob you have mauled.

Then use the calculator to work out how much damage per second the respective companion has caused during the fight.
Of course, you can also do this in the open world, but there you rarely have the opportunity to have the mob “to yourself” or without additional disturbing “spawns”.

Example: Test with "Ember", bow epic, rest of blue gear, aggro and inspired, skill mix of bow and magic,
= approx. 4900 -5500 DPS
Test with “Zerith-Var”, two-hander, all epic, aggressive and penetration,
= approx. 5850-6250 DPS
Both tested 3x in a row and each complete kill (minimum 3 cups of coffee)

A quicker test and the calculation:
Fight stopped after time: 2:50 min / = 170sec.
Remaining health points of the NPC: 2,906,700 mil.
therefore damage caused during this time: 1,003,000 mil.
Calculation: 1,003,000 : 170 = 5,900
So 5900 dmg/sec. companion damage.
The longer the battle, the more accurate and less fluctuating the calculated results. And as far as I can see (not yet tested), this room in the Schola is an instance in which you are alone.
Could work on consoles as well as PC. On PC I can at least see that I could also assign a controller button to the companion attack.
You can find it under “Combat” in the settings.

I'm curious if, and what values you get out of it.

I hadn't considered using the training dummies in the Scholarium to measure Companion DPS. It makes sense, since Companions cannot be summoned in player homes where regular training dummies are.

It'd be nice if the Scholarium training dummies would report your DPS in chat the way the training dummies in your home do.

You can see values (on the PC) depending on your selected game settings, but no summary. But with the method described above you can also do it on consoles. (as long as numerical values, not percentages, of the activated NPC are visible)

An ever so much better solution is to allow us to bring companions into our homes. Let them count against the home visitor total if 'slots' is a thing. I can already bring my warden bear into my home, ask it to attack the baby dummy (Precursor) which gives a nice read out after. What I would really like this for is when I parse against a big dummy, I'd like to have my companion in the fight so I can see how they affect my parse.

That said, I appreciate OP drawing attention to something already available in game. Presently, I generally ask Mirri (as my tank companion) to take out Sadri by herself as a reward after we kill the final boss in Darkshade Caverns. Combat metrics gives the results (which ain't impressive since Mirri is a companion and a tank, lol - usually under 4k dps).

I have almost all companions set to TANK role. I do enough DPS on my own, but it's nice to have an aggro draw. Companion DPS is terrible no matter what setup- so at least I can have them in a useful role as Tank. I have Mirri set to healer, but never use her as healers are an absolute nightmare as they draw aggro and then roll away causing enemies to reset. At least a tank keeps at least one enemy locked in place- and are especially useful against bosses. Then with Zerith-var having Major Breach, it's a no brainer to run him as Tank.

It depends....on your own point of view.
Imagine you're a beginner. That can be a huge help in that case.
    Or,...
a tired and bored fisherman, or plant collector, or you're simply exploring the beautiful landscape and taking screenshots. ... While you're working, send your companions around. Rely on them. They can do a lot... as long as you know how to handle them and are willing to discover their abilities and secrets... ;)

At the very least, they're fun. I personally wouldn't want to miss that anymore.
