The cool thing is, character would demand recognizing others as they wish to be seen—even when it’s inconvenient, even when no one’s forcing you. That’s what makes it character, not performance. Strange how often the loudest lectures on “realness” collapse the moment basic decency is expected.

No one’s demanding you abandon reason—just that you extend the same courtesy you’d expect for yourself. The idea that someone might falsely ask for recognition doesn’t justify treating everyone with suspicion. That’s not discernment. It’s just cowardice dressed up as principle.
And as for the claim that Tanlorin “isn’t a real person,” that’s just evasion. You saw something in them that unsettled you, so you reached for mockery. Let’s not pretend this is about fiction. It’s about how quickly some people show their hand the moment decency becomes even slightly inconvenient.

Even the quest (what I've done of it anyway) don't really mention it. Which is realistic imo, who randomly tells people out of the blue unless a mistake is made?

No, a transsexual person in the old-fashioned sense of the word will not talk about it, but just get their body fixed so it fits their sense of self, and then live a normal life.

the only thing that unsettles me about the fictitious character tanlorin is her drunken revelry and copious sexual acting out, neither of which is healthy.

I loath Tanlorin as a character for many reasons but that is actually the most realistic part of her character being an abuse or trauma survivor.
