Weapon, Armor, Guild, World, and Alliance Skill Lines – Future in the Age of Subclassing

Hello everyone,

With subclassing on the horizon, I’d like to briefly talk about the future of non-class skill lines—specifically weapon, guild, alliance, and other skills.

Even today, many of these abilities are not popular as primary spammables. Skills like Uppercut, Snipe, and Flurry are still present in some builds, but for many classes, there are simply stronger class-specific alternatives. Other abilities such as Hidden Blade, Momentum, and Low Slash are almost completely forgotten.

I’ve often seen people argue that class skills define class identity and should therefore be stronger. But with subclassing coming in, class identity is becoming more flexible or even diluted—meaning there’s no longer a strong justification to keep these non-class skill lines underpowered. This is the perfect time to revisit their balance and give them a bit more viability in both PvE and PvP.

Speaking of Scribing: some of the base skills like Smash, Vault, and Torchbearer already feel close to useless. I hope they won’t be completely forgotten when subclasses go live.

Separately, I’d like to highlight this older thread:
https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/643426/update-all-while-slotted-abilities-to-function-on-either-bar/p1 @Erickson9610
With subclassing being introduced, many ideas from this thread feel even more relevant now.

For example, I still don’t understand why Flame Skull and its morphs haven’t been updated to work "While slotted on either bar," when other skills with similar mechanics—like Molten Whip, Relentless Focus, Bound Armaments, and now Crystal Fragments—have received that treatment.

In the same vein, I believe Expert Hunter and Magelight should now provide Major Savagery and Prophecy regardless of which bar they're slotted on.

TLDR: With subclassing on the way, it's time to give some love (and power) back to the weapon, guild, alliance, and other non-class skill lines—so they don’t fall even further into obscurity.

I agree. Werewolves need significant buffs too!
