Battlegrounds MMR

It's been busted for months now. How is this okay? o_O
Did the dev team make any announcements about fixing it in the near future?
It's ridiculous how not a single game has been close, since they made the change from 4v4v4 that no one asked for.

some form, yes. it is night and day difference, as I barely did them now I'm up against top pvpers. Though I haven't done any BG's for a few weeks now, not my cup of tea. TBH I've been delving into new games lately, like X4, No Man's Sky, and Enshrouded.

They specifically addressed MMR when they made the BGs, and made sure it decay and reset over time (unlike before, where it only ever went up)

But... it does seem reasonable that it seems like to some that MMR doesn't work, in the instance where there aren't enough people to actually separate queues, which may be the case. A lot of people are talking about their frustrations with long queues and overloaded matches, and all of that is pointing to the fact that there may actually be very few players in the BG queue.

I guess the main question is: if there are 16 people in the queue, then you can't really separate them by MMR since there are only 16 people in the queue and 16 per match. The alternative is that you just don't have the match run at all.

The real test of MMR working would be to see how it feels next week, when MYM is active, since there will be more people in the queue. But after the event (or even halfway through the event when the non-PvPers get burned out), it'll probably go back to how it is now.

MMr's only work when there's a healthy population of players entering a queue. ZOS debuted 2-team BGs with poor functionality and drove away a lot of their community, myself included.

They then didn't bother trying to fix it with U45, leaving a broken system in place for a guaranteed 6 months. In my opinion, the damage has been done. Even if they do fix it in U46, most of the old players that filled the lobbies and beefed up the queuing population likely won't come back.

ZOS almost did something amazing. Instead, they killed it with neglect. Shame.

It is busted because of their "fix" to MMR, specifically the monthly reset. It takes around 3 weeks to reach any kind of balance between players, and then a week later it resets again. People warned against it on PTS, I've asked about it for the PVP Q&A but they pushed the non-cyrodiil questions back to past u45 launch, so like Aldoss said we are probably going to be stuck with this system for at least a few more months.

Their MMR system of W/L + a modifier for max rank alliance character on account was awful in 4v4v4. So inaccurate that people assumed the MMR was based off medal score.

In 4v4 there is more of a claim for this type of MMR working, as in most cases, people cant avoid PVP to run objectives. The monthly reset totally negates this advantage of 2 team BGs and makes the MMR system feel worse than it was.

If they have proper MMR, good players and healers would be distributed evenly in both teams.

Question, last I saw we were told to expect part two Q&A answers "later in February". Has something changed? You mention here part two pushed to after U45, is that accurate and if so where to find this info? Thanks

Feels that way since the battlegrounds update introducing the two team format.

The MMR system was always the dark horse for battlegrounds even before the rework. It's the main reason to long bg queues, loop sided games etc.
Main difference now is that it seems to reset more often ,once/month if I remember the patch notes correctly, which is honestly way too frequently. Preferably once/patch would be ideal.

For me the best game mode is to play as a duo in the 4v4 and going up against other duos. I've seen one full 4 man premade this entire patch but other than that the 4v4 group queue is an overwhelming majority filled with duos, and most of the matches I play are very very close and feels somewhat competitive (even tho there isn't anything competitive about the new BG's, and it never was with the old format either tbf).

Still, zos needs to actually roll up their sleves and give us a proper mmr system that you can see so BG's can at least feel a little competitive.

The least they could do is stop updating MMR monthly, until they come up with a better system.
BG's is unplayable now. You're either getting completely destroyed with no chance of a comeback, or you're completely destroying the other team without being challenged at all.
This is so bad, and what angers me the most is that it's a result of a change that literally no one asked for, and was forced upon us.

So you guys mean ZOS intentionally, in every single match, puts the best players in one team and the worst players in the other team?

    No? You don't mean that?

Then you mean it's bad luck that, all the time, puts the best payers in one team and the worst players in the other team.

    Right?

Do you really think ZOS splits the teams intentionally? Or do you think every single match has bad luck always putting the best players against the worst players? Really guys?

    It's totally random.

My games don't always go like you say. Some times we destory the other team, some times we're destroyed, some times we win by a good margin, some times we lose the same way, and some times games are really close.

I put a screenshot above. Want me to put 10 or 20 more of those? Or 10 or 20 screenshots of non-close games but where one team is definitely not destroying the other team, even if the game is not close?

Games are fine. It's random. There's nothing to fix here.

From a new BG player's perspective it's usually a blowout one team or the other and you know within the first minute or two. I'm just running it lately for the mount and once done I'm back to Cyrodiil.

It's no fun at all to know you need to wait 13 more minutes for the match to end, then queue up and wait again for a group to form. I'd say about 80 percent of the time it is a blow out by one team or the other very quickly. Once i get the mount I will not be back unless there is something else worth playing for as it's unbalanced. The only time it is really fun is when the matches are close and could go either way.

It should reset quarterly / on patch. The Solo queues should be Solo & (or) Duo, it will equalize between teams regardless. I don't think there should even be a 8v8 group queue. There would be 3 two team queues. The 4th queue can be three team 4v4v4 Solo & Duo.

I only solo but see no reason to force 2 players into queues that may have 1 to 4 parties. A lot of people just want to group with a friend or partner. The games would pop faster and play smoother with a mix of duos and solos on both teams instead of all solos, not even taking into account the MMR landslides cause 1 player needs 7 casualties to assure they dont win 5 matches in a row, cant have that.

There is plenty to fix, lol. Do you know what MMR stands for? It's not supposed to be random.
And for every screenshot you can provide, I can give you 10 where the match was not balanced at all.
That's not how it's supposed to work, and it certainly isn't how it worked, back when we had 4v4v4.

Considering how ESO's combat is, two-teams BGs will always fall into one of the following categories, regardless of what they do to MMR:

''Grossly lopsided- One team mindlessly farming the other. This is the most likely scenario.
Slightly lopsided- The superior team is determined within the initial clashes, then it becomes a matter of pointlessly going through the motions until the end of the game.
Grueling stalemate- This is the rarest type. Pray you never have to suffer through this torture.''

We can still dream of 3-teams BGs

There are a few things wrong with BGs imo ....

    - Teams not being rotated after each round in 4 man team death match. If one team dominates round 1, then 95% they are going to dominate round 2.
    - Healers not being balanced between teams (e.g. one team having 2 healers or more, the other having none)
    - Only having 2 flags in Domination, there should always be 3.
    - Get rid of the vampire and WW balls in Chaos ball. Some people wont pick them up.
    - Remove the over inflated score points that are given to healers; too many healers cause games to become stale (this is aimed at 4 man games). Damage done should be giving the same love in terms of points gained that healers get.

I cant comment on the MMR as I dont know much about it in this game tbh. However, IMO, the games are just too random for any logical programming or thought to have went into them (i.e. see my second point above). This makes me think they are dumbly set up ... and are just random depending on who is in the queue.
