While I am not a big pvp person I have found that the more I do it the more I can actually have some fun while working towards a goal. The biggest thing I found is once you acknowledge that you're just going to be cannon fodder and die to most, the act of being killed didn't cause me nearly the turmoil as it did in the beginning.

If it's anything more demanding than "get killed x number of times in PvP" then it's outside my skill set and I'll probably sit this one out.

1) Get killed 1 time by an enemy player in PvP.
2) Get killed 5 times by enemy players in PvP.
3) Get killed 25 times by enemy players in PvP.
4) Join a ball group in Cyrodiil and get killed by an enemy bomber.
5) Try to defend a friendly keep in Cyrodiil and get killed by enemy players.
6) Try to PvDoor an enemy keep in Cyrodiil and get killed by the NPC guards.
I can do these!
I don't care about the capstone reward (custom mining action), so I won't care about missing out on this one. If any of the guilds I belong to have events, I might get a few items ticked off, but it won't be a priority.

I actively pvp'd in WoW and RIFT - about a decade+ ago . I never found it fun, but it was one of those things family and friends got me into - and while I got reasonably good at it, I really hated every minute of it.
Just never going there again....

I think it mainly depends on what the rewards are. As someone with no interest in ESO's PvP at all, I'm personally delighted if PvPers get more content aimed at them, but if the rewards are PvE-based then I can understand a degree of frustration if non-PvPers feel they are being denied decent rewards by being pushed into content they have no interest in.
