Compensating?
Last time some people asked for compensating, but other players, those who wanted to look good for ZOS, said that compensations were useless and that there was no need for them. End result: we got nothing, not even 1 gold. I assume it will be the same this time. In another game I play, for a few hours of maintenance they give out currency chests....
What do you mean we got nothing??? I forgot what the reward was on the first day in January (it was good, though)...but the second day... it was "FIVE" 150% XP scrolls! Those are VERY valuable - especially if you're working on leveling-up something specific, such as... "scrying"! Those first 2 days of rewards in January "were" the compensation for the problems in December. You might check into it before you say they never give us anything!!
That compensation was given because the downtime was completely unexpected and happened during an event. This time 'round, the downtime was intentionally scheduled outside of any event for just such a possiblity. The ToS notifies the user of the possiblity of downtimes for scheduled maintenance.

Servers are down, they have stuff that needs doing with them. End of story. I have other things I can do

This kind of thing has never gotten under my skin, been playing since the beginning.
And no, I don't feel entitled to anything, all good here. These types of things go with the territory, life goes on.
There are complaints when things aren't fixed / updated / maintained and there are complaints when they then do them.. can't have it all ways and no matter what time is picked someone won't be happy and will gripe.
People say the daily rewards aren't that great and aren't worth it most of the time - then get all bent out of shape when they think they might miss one of them for maintenance... and then want more free stuff for compensation for not getting the thing they felt wasn't worth getting. Seriously...
People are often angry bc of long downtimes every now and then and yet most of the times nothing is fixed or even worse then before ( at least sometimes ) And yes some people say they don’t need the daily rewards but not all .2 -

How? What broke?
Nothing is broken. The team is working on some upgrades, and it is taking longer than anticipated. We updated the main maintenance thread as soon as we heard from the team working on the upgrade about what the new time window would be.
I appreciate the response and the effort, but, there's no way to make that sound good and that assumes that the new estimate's sound.1 -

To be fair to ZOS (and in the interests of transparency, I work in IT) I feel their response (as a comms team) is reasonable. It's uncountable the number of times I've been asked for an estimate of DB optimisation activity (or something similar) and had no idea how long it's going to take... (you all know that Microsoft progress bar... 5 mins to 90%, back to 80%, and then an hour on 95%... you get my point). We also really should keep in mind this game is 10 years old, running on a design/software/data architecture that is rooted in that original design from 10 years ago.. which, yes, they're changing/improving/fixing it slowly.. but still exhibits issues from those original roots. All will be fine, not ideal, but fine.
