Give Companions a Companion Costume option like the Companion Outfit one

I decided to change Azandar's look to a costume rather than the outfit he has been using since I first received him. So I picked out a costume and set it up, but was unpleasantly surprised that I had to go through the process with him on all of my characters rather than having a dropdown for "Companion Costume" like we do for "Companion Outfit".

Please add a "Companion Costume" option so we can easily apply these on all our characters.

Do you mean costumes or outfits?
Because companions have an "outfit 1" slot and you can change it at every outfit station at any time you want. It should be a drop down menu within the equipment tab if the companion menu.

Additionally you can equip them with every outfit that you own. I think youll hsvr to fo that in the collectables sub menu of the companion menu.
It works just like with our characters.

However, I have observed that when I unlock a companion on any of my characters, the companion's outfit will be reset to a default state. The mounts as well, I think.
But I have to just equip the outfit 1 in the companion menu and it's done.
    Is that your issue?

If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

I think the issue here is in the fact that "Companion Costumes" are specific to each player character.

The dyes themselves are saved to the player character and not the companion.

This means you can't have multiple companions using the same outfit with different dye patterns on and also means that each character you have will have to go and dye the companion costumes themselves.

Meanwhile, the "Companion Outfits" are saved to the companion itself, so that all your characters utilize the same companion with the same saved outfits.

As such, the ideal solution would be to move "Companion Costumes" over to the companions themselves. Thus allowing each individual companion to have its own set of costumes that can be uniquely dyed (And subsequently activated with an easy toggle without having to faff around going to an Outfit station on every character to apply the same dyes to the same costumes over and over)

I don't need anything like that. Before implementing something like this, imho it's better to address the real problems.

An outfit is different from a costume.

Companions have "Companion Outfit" or "No Outfit" options so that once an outfit has been set all that needs to be done on each character is to choose "Companion Outfit" and they are then wearing it.

There is no "Companion Costume" option so once a costume has been chosen and dyed it can't just be chosen when on other characters. The entire process needs to be repeated with each character for them to wear that costume.

[snip] I'm happy to leave it to Zos to decide how useful such a feature actually is.

The companion is using the collectible of the character. We can dye the same costume different colors depending on which character it is on. And people even spend real life money to have different colors of the same costume on different characters.

Outfits aren't shared across characters, so the companion has their own outfit. But the collectibles are shared with the character.

Regardless of why it's this way, why can't there be "No Companion Costume" and "Companion Costume" options like there are for Outfits? Then players can choose to use the "Companion Costume" if they want to show that one, or "No Companion Costume" if they want to keep it different.

Because some people want the companion to match with the aesthetic of their character.

No companion outfit displays their armor. No companion costume would not display the costume in the colors they wanted, it wouldn't display any costume at all.

In other words, if the wish is for the companion to use your collectible, that need is not met by disabling collectibles.

    Pass.

I always tailor the companions look to the character they are with. Sometimes using the same costume dyed differently.

If the costume was dyed to the companion, or the costume became a pull down hard coded choice. Then the customization options will become more limited.

If the companion costume is account wide then they would have their own collectibles instead of using ours.

So companion costume would be a set costume for all characters.

And no companion costume wouldn't display anything.

Not all outfit styles are available for each character either because not all of us learn every motif on every character. Yet the Companions can set an outfit on one character and just choose it to set it on all of their characters.

It's not up to me to figure out how to make this work, anyway. That is what ZoS does.

But what happens if I want the costume blue on one character and black with another? Your way sounds like I could not do that.

This sounds like another “is it really a problem?” Issue. Spending 1 min at a dye station each time you unlock a follower is not the worst thing.

If we choose "No Companion Costume" then it's not set to anything and the player should still be able to use and dye any costume they want for the Companion while on that character.

Just like we don't have to choose "Companion Outfit" now and can dress them however we want.

Outfit styles are account wide unlock. The difference between them and the costume is the outfit is assigned to the companion. I would not mind a way to quickly apply the costume to all characters on the account (which I think is the main issue you have?), but not at the expense of current cosmetic functionality.

I do not mind as long as the same companion can wear different costumes with different dyes applied to them when summoned for different characters (as it can be done now).
