I'm saying it's odd that I can get amazing performances on both NA and EU which I shouldn't be able to on the EU server as someone who lives in the USA which makes me think and believe it's an internet problem like do you all in A-U-S-T-R-A-L-I-A get 10 gig speeds?

I can have 24-36fps inside an ESO player home and exit into the local zone and watch my FPS drop down to less than 10fps and then flap around depending on landscape and player population numbers.

That's a processing problem, not an internet problem.

It's not just players from Aus or Nz. I live in the UK and i normally get between 130-150 ping. For the last 3+ days its been in the mid 300's spiking over 5000.

I've done a trace route 3 times and I ALWAYS drop packets at the Hub in the US called Akami. All my other hops before hitting this hub are 12-15ms i get to Akami its 250-400ms.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

Yes it's very good, until the very last hop.

ESO has been super laggy on Xbox NA these last few weeks. Rubber banding in Cyrodiil and Imperil City even when server populations were low.

Last night everyone in our full group ( all U.S. - based players) was having lag issues. Videos below from two players, but everyone was complaining about it.
    - https://youtu.be/fhf74tj96Zo?si=rM3jI4VLsAqQxAqf

And it wasn't just because of a full group -- I was playing solo for an hour before joining with the group and it was super laggy then too.

@ZOS_Kevin not sure if you're the right person to tag for this, but can we get some kind of explanation for why it's been so laggy lately? This has been a problem not just in pvp, but in group-instanced areas like dungeons and infinite archive.

Terrible time for server issues when a competitor MMO just came out. I wasn't planning to switch games, but this lag is driving several of my guild mates away. I might have to join them.

Mate, you need to open up your settings an unselect 'Play in Zack Snyder Mode'. :D

We had to abandon a vKA HM last night due to lag. Most of the group was suffering 5-20 second lags, then rubberbanding back to real time.

Doesn't make for a fun Friday night with friends.

    source for this claim? when?

When ESO went to Stadia is when they moved everything from client side to server side. (Back around Greymoor 4 years ago.) Ever since then there's always been desync, but it's gotten progressively worse year after year. Stadia has been dead and buried since January of 2023, but the calculations were never moved back to client side for the anti cheat reasons, I guess. I wish they would swap them back as the servers clearly can't handle the load.

Nah it goes back farther to when players used cheat engine in Cyrodiil to fly around above keeps and spam unlimited ultimates. Calculations went server side to try and curb the cheating that was taking place with cheat engine. Performance never recovered from that move but it had to happen. Cheaters are why performance isn't what it once was.

As I say, the original announcements had 'Australia' listed in December for the Anniversary Event.
    Along with Japan and China.

    Now it's October.

I’m writing this as a desperate plea from Australia. The state of the servers right now makes the game nearly impossible to enjoy. I’m stuck with 300+ ping on a good day, and the experience is a complete mess. I get it—Australia is far, but with the current setup, we’re lagging so far behind that it’s a joke.

This isn’t just me either. There’s a whole community of players down here who want to keep playing, but it’s getting harder to justify sticking around when the lag ruins every dungeon, every BG and Cyrodil. Right now, it’s like we’re playing with a handicap. You have a loyal Aussie player base that’s just asking for the bare minimum so we can enjoy the game on somewhat equal footing.

Yes, specifically from Australia, which is main theme of this discussion.

Importantly, these venues could have presented an opportunity to ask about the issues.
Now Rich Lambert can just sell 'PC Game Pass' and other non-ESO products.

Don't call it lag, mate. I play GW2 on a US server and I get a small but noticeable timelag from when I press a skill to when I see it fire in game. That's lag and it's consistant in all but the busiest instances so it's just something I've learned to get used to.

What I don't get is rubberbanding where my ping skips from 250 to 5000 and back again while I'm standing still in my house. Or getting booted from the server when there are too many things or players on my screen or during the final dungeon boss.

I don't know what to call it but lag isn't the right term for me.

Akamai is worst for us Aussies. Especially when you play against other players.
Here $15, goat mount please. Not gambling or paying 45 : lol :
20% base speed for high ping players.
Streak moves you faster then speed cap.
They should of made 4v4v4v4 instead of 8v8.

    Sound lag!

When I first started playing the game in 2016, ping from NZ was roughly 220ms and ping from Aust was about 230ms. (Give or take 15ms.)

Since ZOS started using Akamai Prolexic servers, my ping from NZ went to around 260ms.

The reason for this increase is the geographic location of the first hop of Akamai servers, which is now located in Sydney Aust.

For a while, the closest Akamai server to Aust and NZ was in Hong Kong, which increased ping to 400ms to PCNA, until Akamai opened the Sydney system and we were re-directed to there. (There is a very big 52 page thread on the forum about that.)
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/439549/oceanic-lag-now-300-400-ms-even-with-a-vpn-was-250-300/p1

    That was in 2018.

Theoretical ping from Sydney to Los Angeles is 180ms. Real world ping is 210ms so 300 says there is a significant issue with the routing or systems your data goes through. Since Akamai was introduced, we have seen a 25% increase in ping times to ESO. My ping to another USA based game server on Amazon servers is 220ms, ESO it is 280ms.

ZOS didn't care in 2018, despite being aware of the issue. They gave the same responses we are getting now. Make of that what you will.

For me every attempt to do a mirror event daily looks like:
    1. Go to Event zone
    2. Observe hellish desyncs for 10-20 seconds
    3. Desconnect
    4. During the next ~10 minutes any login attempt leads to an error "An unexpected internal error has occurred, please contact someone who cares"
    5. repeat step 1

Creating a multiplayer game and doing the calculations on the client was a pretty optimistic design choice, and I can't imagine there wasn't a single developer working for zos at the time who noted that this was begging to be exploited. They tried to get away with lower server costs, and failed to do so. I'd say that one is still on zos, not the cheaters.
