Logging in - Requesting Character load..... Forever!

LuckyHermit
I have a really crappy isp, and the only thing reliable about it is that it reliably goes down. Unfortunately it is the only viable option for my location.

So I have a cellular hot spot that I use as a backup for when my regular house internet is down. Only problem is that ESO will not load using my Straight Talk cellular hotspot. (It's an AT&T MVNO)

So I figured that a port was blocked, I connect using my VPN (Private Internet Access) Same thing Requesting Character Load.... I connect using my VPN with my regular internet- Requesting Character Load....

I can load every other web page, and all my other online games play just fine using my cellular connection and/or my VPN. Why won't ESO work using my cellular internet or using a VPN?

Has anybody experienced this, and found a work around?

Thanks for any help.

I think it has something to do with the VPN blocking ports. I am currently trying to connect using PIA and I cannot get past the character loading screen.

It's just that all my other games I play work fine using my Cellular internet connection and VPN.. What's different about ESO that it won't work?

Quick question...are you using the ESO_Head add-on? I had this exact issue, for a few days, until I read somewhere to remove that add-on. Have not had the issue since.

Ever find a fix/workaround for playing through PIA?

Edit: In case it helps anyone, I did find a solution:
-In PIA client's advanced settings, check the box for Port Forwarding and specify a region from the list at https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/#portforward (for North Americans, either CA Toronto or CA North York)
-save, disconnect/reconnect, then look at the PIA app's tooltip to get the port #.
-Set your router to forward that port to your PC's local IP.

You may want to undo all this once you're done playing as PIA warns that it reduces privacy.
