I would not buy anything right away. If you get a month of ESO+ you can explore all content except for the most current expansion. They are also doing many giveaways this year, many DLCs have been available for free in the ingame store. Play a bit, either f2p or with ESO+ and familiarize yourself again. Once you stumble on something that is locked you can still decide to upgrade.
Many DLCs also go on sale somewhat regularly.

If you can, buy a month of game time. Check it out to see if you like it. I personally prefer the subscription so I can play any content. The catch is that you can't play the most current expansion without buying it separately.

I see but i was looking for the full game to play. So ESO plus was fine for me but i would hate to be locked out of the expansions...

If you buy the "Gold Road Collection" (and no, I don't know how much it is at this point) you will get everything you don't already have as far as DLCs. You won't get the pre-order items for the previous chapters (but I think there is a more expensive version that includes that too).

I don't use discord to communicate while I'm playing. My friends and I use the game text chat.

I am so disappointed. As if ZOS needs to give players even more reasons to not play ESO. And note that while I know "it will be great" people will almost certainly reply as well (and they should if they have useful content) many replies so far are very pessimistic.

That is not a good sign.

ESO+ (subscription) gives access to everything except Gold Road while subscribed.

If you wish to buy, I would recommend buying the Gold Road collection, this will give you Summerset and Elsewyr (which you already have) but also western skyrim, blackwood, high isle, necrom (including arcanist) and gold road. This will most likely be on sale in a couple of weeks, probably 50% off, when the west weald event is running.

The rest of the DLC (smaller zones and dungeons) can only be bought with crowns, should you wish to buy these, it will run you:
    Guilds and Glory 4,000 Crowns
Year Two Mega-Pack: DLC Bundle 3,500 Crowns
Year Three Mega-Pack: DLC Bundle 3,500 Crowns
Season of the Dragon: DLC Bundle 3,500 Crowns
Dark Heart of Skyrim: DLC Bundle 3,500 Crowns
Gates of Oblivion: DLC Bundle 3,500 Crowns

    Ascending Tide 1,500
    Lost Depths 1,500
    Firesong 2,000
(The above 3 will maybe get a 3500 crown pack in november, but this is only speculation)

    Scribes of Fate 1,500
    Scions of Ithelia 1,500

This is 29,500 at current prices for all the non-chapter DLC. If you take your time most of these go on sale here and there, and as mentioned, some may be given away in the coming months.

You can pay for these crown only items in 3 ways:
    1) Buy crowns: One 21000 plus two 5500 packs will cover it which is 149.99 +2x 39.99=229.97 at current price
If you wait until december for a crown sale, you will get 40% off the 21k pack and 30% off the 5.5k packs, coming in at 145.98

    2) Buy a sub. The sub comes with crowns. A year of sub costs 139.99 and gives 19800 as well as access to all DLC. With this, you have time to decide if you really want to buy everything, collect some from giveaways, buy others on sale, get access to the craft bag, etc.

    3) Make a lot of gold in game and buy the items from other players buy trading your gold for their crown purchases.

You know what you value, but I would not recommend option 1. If you want to pay the money, choose option 2, if you want to spend a lot of time making gold in game choose option 3.

Overall though I would recommend playing the game for a couple of weeks with or without a sub, get the gold road collection (not gold road expansion, it only gives gold road, not deluxe unless you want extra cosmetics) on sale in a couple of weeks, and then go from there if you're feeling like you'll actually stick around. The 1/3/6/12 month subs all come with 1650 crowns per month, so the only difference between them is you get a slight discount on the monthly rate the more you pay up front.

I would use ESO+ and look at the content which then would come with it. See what you like and don't. They are giving away or heavily discounting Chapters and DLCs during this year as part of the log in rewards, etc. So I would wait to "buy" until it comes out as a gift or really cheap. Keep an eye out on the ESO webpage for details because they will announce it ahead of time.

Doesn't buying Gold Road give you all else before? I have been buying them all (though I left for quite a while and only got Necrom on sale last Black Friday) but I thought it was an "you get all before" idea.

I may have been wrong since I can't see playing without ESO+.

Gold road on its own gives only gold road, nothing else.
Gold road collection gives gold road and all previous chapters.
The only way to get the non-chapter DLC is to buy them with crowns (they are all included in the eso+ sub).

I looked it up and found Gold road collection on a cd key site for 50 $
Then i get all the expansions and only need to pay for eso plus.

So it will be total 65 $ for the full game and eso plus.

The question is..do i choose the steam cd key or the eso store cd key.
My account is linked to steam so i guess it dosent matter.

Keep in mind that you only need the upgrade if you have some other version of the game, at least that has been my experience.

Not if they want all the previous chapters. the upgrade only gives gold road.

Not if they get ESO+, but I thought it would include all things along the way.

This is one of those scummy things that turns me off many other games. I have all the "updates" but this would suck if I ever wanted to play without ESO+.

Kind of amazing when other games do not do it that way as far as I know. I believe you get all of World of Warcraft when you buy a new release. Not sure about others. I know Destiny 2 backed off their very confusing stance.

    I guess I was wrong.

Just to clarify, you would get the current chapter expansion (Gold Road) plus all previous chapters, but you would not get the other types of DLCs-- dungeon DLCs and any zone DLCs which were not originally released as chapters. As you already know, an ESO Plus subscription would let you access those, and you could acquire them later if you ever wish to own them outright, either for Crowns as they go on sale, or for free if they are ever given away.

even aside from the bonus of having chapter access without ESO+, the collection would give them the arcanist class which ESO+ doesn't.

It is a scummy plan indeed with all ther DLC than either can be bought with crowns directly or over time with eso plus..either way you pay for the dlc...I understand games need money to run but i just think there could be other ways to earn money with all these streamers out there !
