It appears from the way it downloaded for me (over HughesNet satellite) that it truly was over 30 GB. The chapter download for me at appx (I think) ~6 GB was done in under 5 minutes. This one took 40 minutes.

OMG are you actually able to play the game on hughesnet??

I've already prepared myself for the random crashes I always experience for the first three days after maintenance. I would say it could be confirmation bias, but I have tracked it to the nth degree. Lol.

It said 34 Gig for me but the download was much faster than that, so it definitely wasn't 34 Gig. I don't use PTS and don't have any PTS files on my computer, AFAIK.

Your periodic reminder that GW2 servers NEVER go down for patches, ZOS.

Seems like ESO server downtimes are progressively longer and longer these days....

Yeah something is really wrong with the size. I just downloaded it, epecting nothing bad and suddenly my PC gives me a warning "Hard drive full, deleting temporary data"...

If you're on console, then this isn't for you. Yours comes in a couple of weeks.

PC EU. Had my PC on all day waiting for it. Restarted twice just in case.

Steam User in case anyone wants to track a pattern with this.

I'm PC EU, but NOT a Steam user...

Maybe they just haven't finished deploying the patch to the EU server yet? Might could be why they had to extend.
      (purely a guess)

downloaded it 2 - 3 hours ago, as mentioned in previous comment now the launcher shows "updating" not as before "downloading" and "patching" - it mesures files it will update, not the actuall download. from patch notes it is 1.9(?)gb, with the speed it updated i thought it is less than 1gb.

Yeah updated pretty fast for me too, as you have said, it showed updating, for me, it started at 67GB, it went down very fast and then in like 10 minutes everything was done. PC EU, EGS version.

It is not a 30gb download. Took less than 5 mins on my 200mb line.

No it was virtually a 35 gig download and it failed to download onto my OH's 1000 gig hard drive until he freed up enough space for it. There had to be 35 gig of free hard drive space reserved for the download before you could download it. Then, after it had downloaded, or indeed as it was downloading, I guess it patched in such a way as it deleted older/duplicate files and thus gave back the initial 35 gig hard drive space that was required to first download it.

It was still a 35 gig download that needed all that extra 35 gig hard space to patch.

My ESO game on is Drive D showing 152 GB free space, but the downloading process is continually stalling out in error due to network failure, and because I have a slow bandwidth allowance, if this update is truly over 30 GB, then it could take a week or longer to finish downloading, depending on how many more error messages occur.

This has never happened before. After restarting Steam, the downloading stuttering continues. so it is a mystery to me.

Update: Yesterday I noticed the download process skipped gigabytes, and when there were over 5 GB remaining to download, I went to bed. This morning the game was ready to play and launched without error.

      To make it very clear.

It was 34gigs including patches. So stuff that needed to be fixed (or overwritten) was included in that figure.

In regards to some people downloading quicker that is to do (in general) with your system setup.

It took mine about 2 hours to update but I am on a very old rig and am willing to put with that.

I still don't understand why people cannot understand that not all PCs have the same software/hardware therefore there are going to be massive differences.

It's cause it copies and patches the data files so needs more room, and then replaces the patched files as they are done.It definitely was not a 35gb download, cause took me 2-3 hours to do it and I only got a 12mb dsl line. It's cause they stopped making it say "downloading" and "appling patch",and now it's just says "updating" for the whole thing.

Will this "updating" process be the new programmed mode for downloading and processing patches?

There's no way 34 gigs downloaded for me. I download a lot of games, so I'm very familiar with how long downloads take on my system. Also, the ESO launcher displays the download speed. If it was 34 gigs, it would have taken much longer at the speed it was displaying. I'm not sure why some people had to download the entire 34 gigs. I just know that I definitely didn't have to.
