I thought about it revolving around Hircine. But honestly just give us pet battling and taming! (The other - worse, ugly - MMO parented by holy mother Microsoft - whose name shan't be spelled - already got this feature for at least ten years now; and it's been a huge succes!)

it would be a slap in the face to PvP players if they do basically Pokémon in ESO before anything in Cyrodiil.

But aren't companions essentially pokemon?
They only know a small amount of moves at a time, you can only have one out at a time, you can only carry a limited number on your quickslot, you find them in the wilds of Tamriel, and they only gain xp from battles.

Slightly different, but makes me think of when I used to play a tamer in Ultima Online
Tamer was a skill line that, at high level, would allow you to tame and level up ferocious creatures who would fight for you while you healed them (like ESO companions, only much stronger)

Some type of pet taming/conjuration unlocking would be cool.

But pet battles were pretty low-quality as far as animations, mechanics, and gameplay in the original.

I'd rather ESO go with unique minigames, like characters could do a little physical contest with each other, like a non-combat duel. Or taverny games (I enjoy Tales of Tribute, but I think it's more serious and competitive, especially since the focus is playing against strangers to win rewards).
