At this point, it feels like ZOS is sticking with the "new" jabs model

The new Templar class set Aetheric Lancer is, of course, based around the Aedric Spear skill line, and using it adds in two more instances of the Aedric Spear model to interact with (one thrust into the ground just like Spear Shards, another that floats above your head and then travels to the enemy). So we now have an Aedric Spear model that is consistent across two instances in a single set, an ultimate, 3 other skills, and then we have the main Aedric Spear spammable ability that is instead a translucent copy of the staff motif used by one of the oldest and most vile vampire clans introduced into the lore.

    I'm sure they think the current jabs animation is better. Also in usual fashion they didnt update the rest of the skill line.

    I prefer the old animation and definitely don't think the staff is a reference to the Nighthollow clan even though it uses the same model.

    But it sounds like a leap of logic to say it's motivated by spite.

    I think the staff choice is just because it's a spear instead of a tube of light but I don't like how you rotate so much in the current jabs animation... the old one was FUN. I know ZOS reduced a jab so it's 3 instead of 4 but I don't know why, it's not like jabs is OP given the state of ranged templar being a thing now...

    Yep, along with the horrid permaglow for NB and now necro getting jumped by its own minion :unamused:

    The vampiric shovel doesn’t fit with the rest of the skill line in the least. I really really hope that “skill styles” aren’t just all colors. It’s a fine option for some skills but why others should grant different models and/or animations.

    I’m waiting for original jabs and flurry and an invisible effect Grim Focus…

    The staff looks like a staff and bears no resemblance to the other templar spear animations, so it doesn't fit in any way.

    It's good that people keep bringing this up. The current jabs animation is jerky and flailing looking. They should have just changed the timing and stuck with the original animation. There was no reason to change to the night hollow stave and twisty animation. Nobody asked for it either.

    Doesn't mean we should stop complaining about it. The animation will never get reverted if we don't keep bringing it up.

    So does every staff motif, but I don't see an option to manually change the model.

    Old animation and sound of it is longer than cast time of the skill making it hard for people w/o addons to weave properly. It has actual issue negatively impacting the players.
    Where as new animation disliked out of personal preference.

    Thats pve not pvp. No one is standing in one place to parse in pvp, nerfing 20% jabs damage and making it 0.2 sec faster is not a buff or same as old damage in pvp considering major and minor evasion exist. Also changing snare from 1 sec to 0.5 sec made that snare useless. In the past I had no problem to chase cloaking nightblades and pull them out of stealth with jabs.

    I never liked the motif of the "spear" and the animation looks like the templar is shooing something away with a broom. It's easier to weave with though, so there's that.

    My understanding is that you would LA when you put your foot back, though ZOS could've also just increased the cast time to match.

    It definitely feels weird. What was the point in changing Jabs spear model(not animation) if ZOS apparently doesn't have any plans to visually update the rest of the Templar ''Spear'' skills and they are even using the old model for this new proc.

    No matter if you prefer the old or the new model it's just a cruel joke at this point.

    Their excuse for changing it was, as I recall, for the animation to tie up better with the skill. It still doesn't. The animation time and skill time still differ.We also lost tick of jabs too and all we got was this lousy t-shirt. I loved the old jabs. I did not come across anyone that preferred the new shoveller animation(It always reminds me of shovelling snow, or something). I did have a new name for the class, but I can't mention it on the forums.

    Weaving with a 0.9 channel time was not too bad, you got use to it. Weaving with the new skill is easier, but I'd still take a reversion in a heartbeat.

    It is not a spear, it is a shovel, spears dont have that big headand in addition they use a vampiric staff... They at least could use imperial champion staff and look at least a bit gorgeous.
    Change to burning light and jabs in u35 in general making it iore dificult to activate burning light.

    My question is why didn't they make the model consistent across all the skills, i.e. javelin, shards, charge, ult all use the old model why?

    and while i can see the similarities with shovels, i also cannot because shovels are not shaped like a spearhead (shovels are dented to scoop up stuff).

    High Elf Staff 1 and 2 have more similarities than that vampiric shovel.
    Also imperial champion staff has more similarities than that vampiric shovel.

    Remember, it is a shovel and it is vampiric, it is not a spear and it is not holy as templar is.

    While I don't mind the new model, I'd rather have a "toothpick of light" back to be visually consistent with the rest of the kit.

    Staff of their choosing is puzzling, despite lore implications it's just not resembles a spear much. There's an Imperial Champion one which I personally use as a quasi-spear fitting way more. Not that they a one dev company with limited resources to actually make a spear model, actual spear one without any reskin we're seeing always.

    This looks nothing like a shovel. Shovels have a wide head to scoop up dirt etc. and shovel in a downward angle to the ground. This has a small pointed tip and thrusts forward just like a spear does.
