Complaint Regarding the Scheduling of the PvP Mayhem

PvE events are not every week.
they aren't even every month.
there generally are no PvE events in May or August, February as well this year.

And of course Steam is merely a portion of PC players which is only 1 of 3 of ESO's platforms.

PvE events have also been moved around in recent years. an example would be that Undaunted used to be November but now September.
Now i dont know if that change has made anyone make a post about it, but event dates changing isn't exclusive to Mayhem.

You choose to go somewhere during a vacation.
You don't have to go anywhere if you want to play eso and you could even play eso during your vacation.

And isn't it actually better for events to be there when you have free time?

This is about as nonsensical as it gets. By the OPs logic, they could have a different event that someone else really enjoys in the supposed vacation month.

Thank you for your comment. You are right, PvE events are not every week, and I misspoke. However, looking at the events from the past 12 months, there are 14 PvE events compared to only 2 PvP events:

So, while PvE events are not weekly, they still occur more frequently—7 PvE events for every 1 PvP event. It feels unbalanced.

You're correct that Steam represents only a portion of PC players, and PC is just one of ESO's platforms. However, in the absence of other data, a sample size of 25,000 players still holds statistical relevance and can provide valuable insights into player activity trends. While it's not a complete picture, it helps to illustrate the point about low attendance periods like July and August.

We are drifting away from the main point of the post. The issue is that the PvP event is scheduled during a period of statistically low player attendance, when there are already very few PvP events throughout the year. This timing further limits the opportunities for PvP players to enjoy these rare events.

Maybe it's your logic that doesn't make sense. The point of the post is that there are many PvE events and very few PvP events, and one of those few is scheduled during a period of low attendance. If I miss a PvE event during the same period, I've missed 1 out of 14 events. If I miss the PvP event, I've missed 50% of the PvP events.

This is why a gaming laptop is a good investment. I just got back from my summer vacation. Because I have a gaming laptop, I did all the necessary family stuff with my in-laws during the day, and still had an hour or two to myself every evening for a little bit of ESO. Actually had better ping than I do at home, which was a breath of fresh air!

Yup. Back when we were gone every long weekend and several weeks fall/early winter hunting elk and deer, my laptop was my connection to my "real world" of website clients, as well as my connection (mostly marginal) to whatever game I was currently playing if an MMO, or my way to get lost in Skyrim etc for a while before early to bed so I could manage to get up at 4 am....

there are more pve events, because just my guess:
- this is an rpg
- this franchise is all rpgs and before this only singleplayer games, without pvp obviously so they're less likely to like pvp.

- there are more possibilities with pve events, with the recurring base game events for holidays parallel to real holidays and simply events for every dlc

- the majority of players are not participating in pvp due to likely being interested in this game because they already were elder scrolls fans

so it may feel unbalanced and instead maybe 3 Mayhems could happen,
or there could be another event similar to One Year/Guilds and Glory which includes imperial city(or Cyrodiil) and pve zones so that it isn't as divisive as Mayhem.

They could even do an event that includes all current Cyrodiil zones so it's both PvE and PvP, no downsides to that really.
But the date of an event is unlikely to change.

And again you choose what to do with your free time. a gaming laptop would probably indeed be a good investment if you don't want to miss out on an event nor a vacation to someplace else.

Thank you for your insights LunaFlora. Your points do highlight why there are more PvE events, given the nature of the Elder Scrolls franchise and its RPG roots. However, the reality is that there are more PvE events because the PvP system of this MMORPG has not met expectations.

At launch in 2014, all the trailers focused on the war in Cyrodiil. We were promised epic battles involving thousands of players. These expectations were not met due to hardware issues, hacking problems, and a generational shift. Newer players, unfamiliar with games like Ultima Online or Dark Age of Camelot, found the PvP environment too stressful.

The history of the decline of PvP and the rise of PvE in this game is long and complex and deserves another post.

However, the issue at hand is that scheduling one of the few PvP events during a period of statistically low player attendance further marginalizes this already small group.

As pointed out there will always be schedule conflicts, but perhaps adding some PvP events that do not require event tickets would be good. That way the PvP players are happy and the PvE players don’t feel obliged to participate.

Very few seem to like the Battleground weekends because you are locked into certain type of BG match. I don’t usually do those. Why not just a double AP week (all PvP types - BG, Cyro, IC with double tel var too) every so often? It’s simple and would be less hassle to implement.

That way if you missed the main PvP event you could sort of make up for it.
