Item Number or "Does Not Exist" showing up in zone chat links

For the past two days, I have been seeing people intending to link items in zone chat, but it shows up either as a series of numbers, or as "does not exist" for me. Is this just on my end, or are other people seeing this?
This is all part of the game.

✭✭✭✭✭Probably someone using an addon with an outdated/erroneous database to link items they don't actually have. They had one in WoW, though the database was much more accurate.1
