You have to fulfill one of the conditions of the quest: dig up a treasure map or an antiquity. Purchase from a guild store. Earn a level or champion point

this. Easiest one is to buy from a guild store that's right near the quest giver in craglorn. or run a quick random dungeon daily if you're close to your next CP point.

Overland chests count for the digging up a chest, so if you lnow where some spawn you can go get one and empty it

I wanted to use this event as an excuse to use up some of the many, many treasure maps cluttering up my bank account and my characters' inventories. But I like trying to find the dirt mounds from memory or by figuring out the pictures rather than just looking them up on an app, and what invariably happens is that I complete the quest by finding and looting a regular overland chest while trying to locate the dirt mound! :(

I think looting a thieves trove also counts, as well as looting a lockbox, although I haven't tried either of those this year, and it could be that those no longer count after the outcry raised by some players during previous events.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

Is there a lower limit on how much spent? I grabbed something not too expensive on my baby account EU this morning instead of taking the time to go somewhere to dig up a treasure map, and it didn't complete the quest. So I had to go do the treasure map anyway....

The chest at the end of a Dark Anchor counts as "unearthing a tresure chest", as I discovered by accident.

Huh. I read the whole quest stuff a couple of times and didn't see any mention of how much. This is the only time I've ever tried that - now I know that, I won't ever spend that much finishing a silly quest....

Sorry, I wasn't clear. It's not in the dialogue, but it's in the tooltip once you have the quest.

Ah. Yeah, once I pick it up (having done this each year since ZoZ showed up), I usually just run to get the treasure map one, so really haven't read anything else. I wouldn't have wanted to spend 10k on this baby account anyway, since I haven't "fed" it from my others who have all the gold....

    Thanks for the info!

Are you perchance using a mod for that?

Couldn't get that hint in vanilla, the only place it shows up for me is one of the addon popup.

This should definitely be part of the description in the quest journal!
(I myself was lucky, the thing I wanted was over 10k. But it seems like getting a couple of lower cost items works, too, as long as they add up to 10k during one day?)

No, I specifically turned off addons to make sure I wasn't mistaken.

It may be a game setting to enable that, though.

I haven't checked my settings, but it shows up for me and I use no addons whatsoever. Nearly all of my settings are set to the default values.

The lootable things at the end of Mirrormoor invasions in the West Weald also count as "treasure chests", so I assume volcanic eruptions in High Isle/Galen, Harrowstorm digs, or Summerset geyser pearls would as well.

Just tried it on GFN without addons, and there's nothing in the quest journal and the quest popup on the map.

(Couldn't test with the quest tracker, since ESC just ends fullscreen and the tracker seems to be off by default - but this hint should most definitely be in the quest journal itself.)

I disabled all addons before logging in,and still get hint on PC in corner. So it's part of the game itself. If you don't see hint, maybe it's cause it's so light, and you jsut can't see it good.
