Launcher won't start

I know there have been other instances of this going on currently, and I have looked through the suggested tips but they don't seem to be working.

I'm currently running on Windows 8.1, 64-bit system. The launcher won't open but I can run the game fine through eso.exe. The launcher on the Mac I have access to seems to be working fine.

I have tried disabling my Norton AV and have tried running in admin mode, still nothing.

I have gone through Program Files and tried running the launcher from there and still the same problem.

When I open my task manager I see it goes into my Background Programs fine but it doesn't display the launcher and it eventually stops running and is removed from Background Programs.

I was able to get it to run in a compatibility mode (it was trying to open it as a Windows 7, I switched it to Windows 8 and it worked for a second but closed itself and then switched back to Windows 7 and it seems to be staying open now).

I won't be closing out of the launcher, if I can help it, until this gets fixed. The problem started after restarting my computer recently. There were no recent updates on the OS or anything that I know of that was installed that would be affecting, or conflicting with, this game.

Anyone know if there's a fix or should I just wait for the official word from ZOS?

You have to run launcher as administrator. Had the same problem and that works for me

Thank you for the suggestion but as I mentioned, I already tried that and it doesn't do anything.

The launcher has shut down on me a couple times since I posted this and the only way I can get it to work is switch to Win7 compatibility mode and then back to Win8 and let it run. This will usually keep the launcher open for a little while but after selecting play a couple times the launcher locks up and I need to do it all over again.

Can you please try the following steps:

On your Control Panel, click on "Network and Internet" and open Internet Options.
Connections Tab: Click on LAN settings. On the LAN settings window, uncheck all the boxes and click on OK.
Advanced Tab: Click on Reset and then click on Reset again.
You may have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

I am having the same problem (I've done the steps above). I can launch the game by bypassing the launcher, but that is obviously not a solution.

Well... After following the steps the only thing that was checked off in those settings was under the "Automatic configuration" where it would "Automatically detect settings". It didn't require a reset to use but still didn't work.

I left the setting unchecked and did a restart anyway and it seems to be working for the moment.

What I don't understand is how the option to automatically configure a LAN would interfere with the game launcher from opening.

Clean boot
best way to make sure you have no conflicts or programs preventing the launcher from executing.
if it runs after the clean boot you know theres something wrong, go through your programs one by one to find which one it might be.
