This I do find more appropriate, because you can better see what you have already done on the map . No need to switch anything here!
Regarding the Skyshards. Since I am playing on PC and using the "Skyshards" addon, I can't say how the normal map works . But, I do find it nice that the addon shows me the Skyshards permanently on the map (not collected, as well as collected one).

I want them to show up as black shards on the map when they are used up from the original white shards on the map. So, you know that you got all the white skyshards. They would show up as black then on the map and you would know that you got them already. Otherwise, I'd have to start from number 1 and go through like 5 of them per map and screenshot the location of each so I know I already have for each one. I can just do this. And again search all those spots that I already could've searched already with a screenshot.

That filter is a Global filter meaning all Skyshard will either show or be disabled from showing, it will not make any distinction between what you have collected and what you left to collect for that you need to use addon.

So, have you followed any of the advice already posted in this thread about configuring your filters so that you can see the skyshards?
