Murkmire is the absolute WORST zone

Zos gave it away for free as log-in rewards one time. Good value in my opinion.

I remember at the Murkmire release presentation, I think it was Matt Firor who said the zone was designed so you don't get dismounted when you ride through water. The crowd erupted in cheer. It didn't take much to get excited back then. But the last laugh went to Zos because if you get too close to a wayshrine as you ride passed, you get dismounted.

I don't dislike Murkmire, despite the buginess. It's not my favourite zone though.

Yes, most people have forgotten about being dismounted in 2 mm of water.

Compared to other zones, Murkmire has a soul. I mean it has something going for it. Even newer zones like galen, high isle, western skyrim, reach feel kinda bland, like a "generic" fantasy setting. Murkmire on the other hand has this unique feeling, same as TES III Morrowind had when it launched. A unique world with huge mushrooms & "alien" looking world. Murkmire has similar vibe. It also feels like a unique area with "alien" looking things. I think that is one of the best zones in the game tbh.

It's my favourite zone. Beautiful, and COMPLETELY different from anywhere else and, honestly, a much stronger approach to world building and environmental design than has been in evidence for anywhere since except Elseweyr (you explore, find these old structures, and *understand* something about Murkmire's character and world, rather than the usual "we put a generic building there just because"). It feels real, rather than a generic cookie cutter fantasy landscape.

Love the zone. Soloing the World Bosses is absolutely possible if you don't ignore the mechanics.

It is not, walks like thunder heals faster than you can kill the totems

It's not impossible then, it's a DPS race. Besides, World Bosses were meant to be cleared by multiple players.

Yeah, I hate those, because my DPS is too low to win. There are a few exceptions-- for insrance, I can solo the Troll boss in The Blessed Crucible on Normal, although I doubt I could kill it on Veteran.

A DPS race tuned in such a way that it's impossible to solo, takes at a min 2 solid DPS players and even then....eugh

Inconveniently placed wayshrines. This zone has the worst ws placement period. Add to that many of the other points made here. I just hate this zone.

I do agree that WB needs a nerf so it can be attempted solo. What achievements are bugged out by the blade of woe?

It’s the “Surreptitiously Shadowed” achievement where you have to find Choixth and speak to him 5 times. On PC if you’ve started the Dark Brotherhood quest line talking to him will crash your game, on console the interaction just simply doesn’t register

I'm on console and I haven't found Choixth again since the first time I ran into her. So I haven't been able to get that achievement, and now I hear it's bugged? Oy.

Otherwise, I find Murkmire really cool! As an Argonian main, I was really happy when this one came out!

When did the inability to solo a WB in a DLC zone become a bad thing?

In the very recent past, it was touted as a positive trait of a DLC zone, and that it's a good thing that newer DLC zones are building on that. Can't remember specific threads, but the discussions are still pretty fresh.

Don't like swamps, don't like creatures that live in swamps.

I like swamps and I like the creatures that live in swamps.

What I don't like are snowy zones.

I LOVE MURKMIRE!! Easily one of the best zones for me, chockfull of interesting characters, lore, flora, and fauna. I take all my Argonians through Murkmire's story, its like initiation at this point lol.

Blackwood is a nice swamp, great side content, but I won't do the main quest. And I understand the hate for Shadowfen, but I can't be mad at it bc it makes for a realistic swamp environment, bc swamps would really be like that. Walking and all of a sudden dropped to your waist in water and mud (really moistens the scales tho).

Totally agree but it can be annoying because Murkmire isn’t a busy zone at all. So, the likelihood of anyone getting some achievements is slim. Usually you have to wait until the zone has an event so you can crank out the achievements which can be a long wait.

When Necrom came out, I did the 30 dailies straight away and loved that the bosses were somewhat of a challenge. And with the zone being busy it was straight forward. However, I took a massive break from the game so have many DLCs to catchup on. Mirkmire is an old zone and I don’t want to ask someone to help me complete a world boss every day for 30 days (well 15 if we shared the quest)

Oh, you've just NOW experienced what I call "Satan's favorite child"? Oh sweet poor soul, you weren't around when there was a Murkmire event and each totem had 500k health and it took an entire zerg to take it down... That's one boss I'll NEVER touch again! That is if I want to keep the hair on my head a bit longer.

It's one of the pvp-like zones. If you like adventure games, it's not fun. Most of us like the good story without all the gratuitous fighting. Most of us are not Z though :)

My "strategy" with Murkmire was to ignore the WB quests with Walks Like Thunder. Just... nope. Made it a bit tedious but given that when I can play there aren't that many people playing, it was better than waiting around hoping to find someone else willing to help.

I adore Murkmire. As far as I'm concerned it has by far one of the best zone stories, with an actual message attached to its narrative. ESO zone stories don't tend to do that. And on top of this, it's beautiful and lush. I hate Kotu Gava probably more than any other enemy in the game but it's well worth the inconvenience of dealing with the Broodmothers to spend time there.

I enjoyed Murkmire's story and environment, and I don't deal with the world bosses since getting the achievement. I liked learning more about the Argonians. I also appreciate that I got the zone for free.

On the other hand, I hate navigating Murkmire. I wish they would add a small home in Root-Whisper Village that I could buy for gold.
