Why duels don't give any reward and why are that useless?

Im sick of 1v1 someone in cyrodiil or bg and then he starts running but when they are more they are brave enough to zerg you and it is a bit boring.

I hope someday ZOS make an arena mode 1v1 with proper mmr and rewards because at this point duels are just a waste of potions... And the arena can also have moving lava or things like that, even a single flag with a low area that rewards the player that hold it more time, idk, there are many possibilities in a 1v1 duel arena. And the duels with timers and if none dies just wins the guy with more damage or the guy that holded more time the flag... idk.

Sometimes pvp guilds host duels in the arena house (had lava and other traps). Can try looking into that.

If matchmade dueling is ever a thing, it would need to be no-cp and no-proc otherwise you’d have entire patches like last one where everyone is running MDW and Vateshran, regardless of their class.

That being said, it would be a lot less fun as a result, and most people wouldn’t take to it, which is probably why they haven’t done it yet.

Yes but no reward to do that, just a potion waste, so a leaderboard could be awesome :(

Or why not have both? It will be a good indicator of balance in both instances.

And the rewards (AP and EXP) could be based on time fighted or points.

Balance passes are far too infrequent, where a single patch could destroy the playlist for months to years before it gets fixed where a no-proc wouldn’t have to deal with that problem. And no-cp would remove the entry barrier.

Just look how long it took to reign in MDW and Vateshran is STILL a problem. lol

Because farming duels is easy, so any meaningful reward would be too easy to get I guess?

    Pretty much this.

Zenimax did not want to introduce dueling at the start. Clearly, they changed their mind, but just as clearly, they made it into a very secondary, if not tertiary, level feature.

I would definitely like to see a dueling arena in the game. Like there are duels in ToT now, where it is possible to participate in both ranked and unranked duels.

I like duels, but I don't like teleporting to Bergama (I'm from PC EU) and looking for an opponent there. I just want to press a button and wait for the system to select an opponent for me.

I wouldn't say no to something being done with duelling. That said, I think duels already have a place, e.g. for learning how to PvP. Thus I wouldn't call them useless.

In terms of being zerged, the obvious solution is to play a damage avoidance class, e.g. nightblade or sorc. That can be boring too I guess, but at least you won't get bogged down LoSing.

there is technically 1 reward for dueling, you get a title after 100 duel wins lol

but i can see why they didnt add other rewards, even that one series of achievements can be cheesed with 2 players, or your self using 2 accounts and just trading wins with another player, or beating your 2nd acct to a pulp constantly lol

Guys but I dont mean about invite someone to duel as we have right now, I mean a PvP duel finder like in battlegrounds! For me actual duels are good to stay as it is but a PvP duel finder in an arena with rewards could be awesome.

A duel queue would be cool. A duel queue that players could spectate would be amazing--but probably complicated to implement.

It's weird that they added a whole arena in Stormhaven and only years later made it part of the jesters festival. Feels like they had more plans that might have been scrapped.

ZOS added Group Finder so many years after the game launched, there is hope that Duel Finder can be added too, at least I would like it.

I saw admins of WoW's pirates servers around 2012-2014 developing a feature to spectate arena battles. I don't think it's technically difficult for ZOS to do something like that in 2024.

My personal recommendation is to go to IC. There you find a lot 1vs1.

That being said duel queue would be great.

try no potion dueling. it works in other games where healing and sustain can draw out fights forever.

A matchmade, ranked dueling arena would be really amazing to see. Dueling is one of the most fun aspects of any MMO. It’s a shame that in ESO, dueling is entirely fostered by the community with zero support from ZOS and no rewards or recognition, except for the admiration (or lack of lol) of fellow duelists.

The logistics would need to be carefully implemented. Duels would likely need to be no CP. Additionally, it would be a travesty if the map itself had any terrain or line of sight options. It must be a flat space large enough to avoid AoE, but small enough to prohibit excessive kiting.

Also, there would need to be some thought put into how to resolve stalemates. Among the serious dueling communities, the rule of thumb is to cease the duel at ten minutes. A general guideline is that the player that dealt more damage should be the victor; some communities have judges that decide based on sets worn or strategies employed. I think greater damage done would be a reasonable place to start.

As we all know, there should be a ban list on sets worn. This would likely take some collaboration with the community for ZOS to properly gauge. A ban list of sets wouldn’t be difficult to implement, as we already see something similar in no proc Cyrodiil and IC. I don’t think it should be as restrictive as the no proc ban list to engage player creativity, but there certainly are sets that should be removed from the format.

This would be a huge win for ZOS, as it likely wouldn’t take a ton of effort to implement, but would be seen as a huge feature.

Greater dmg done would just favor pressure builds over burst builds.

    I personally would do this:

After the 5 minute mark, lower mitigation and increase damage done by 10% every next minute until the 10 minute mark. If nobody dies, the fight becomes a draw.

It might be to complicated for the current team to implement.
    • Needs timelimit unless you want to become a hostage against troll tanks.
    • Some sort of punishment against 0 damage troll builds.
    • Class queue and mixed queue?
    • Actual rewards
    • Actual MMR system
    • Can't split queue too much, so not too many different rulesets
    • No-cp (no-proc?)
