Companion independently attacked and murdered a guard.

I accidentally stole something and got guard aggro. I totally ignored the guard but...
the companion decided it would murder it.

No questions asked- no light attack from me to signal an attack -nothing.

= large bounty

In addition to that, in dungeons recently I often don't see my companion. It is miles back attacking something, no where near me, no where near the buffs I have down.

Did a developer decide they need more brain-power? Because NO.

Companions don't wait for you to instruct them before engaging in combat with whatever's attacking you. That's what they're programmed to do, same as pets.

If you do not want a companion to attack something that is attacking you, you need to use the passive command for pets (pet control + block).

To get them out of passive mode and back to attacking, use pet control + light attack. If you want to instruct them to switch targets once they're active, you can instead heavy the new target.

Pet control is Y by default in keyboard mode and pressing in both axis sticks by default in gamepad mode.

There does seem to be a bug with companions and aggro, because even when I use heavy attack on an enemy the companion runs to that enemy and immediately runs off to another. Instead of staying on the target I heavy attacked.

This is really noticable as when I get a marauder in the IA and there are still other enemies around, my companion totally ignores the marauder even though I did heavy attack him(multiple times). Which on Gothmau often results in dead for me.

This has been happening to me since the Gold Road update.

PS: Using Sharp with tank/taunt set-up!

I wish I could get my companion to stand further away. They always run into my camera view and it's really distracting. Independently standing further away would be great.

Can you try the actual pet command instead?

There may be a bug with heavy attack as opposed to the pet instruction key + light attack.
