Why am I being asked for a code to login after being idle for too long?

I got logged out for being idle for too long (PC-EU).
It then prompted me to enter an emailed code so I could login. Using the code I got failed multiple times and now I have to wait at least 10 minutes to try again, though the prompt said to try 24 hours later. Why a full day before I can access my account from the same place I have been using all day?
I think this is a PC-EU problem because I just logged into PC-NA without any problems. I may miss some rewards today, but not much I can do about that.

No I did not. I cut and pasted it in as I always do, from my password manager.
I entered the exact code in the emails.
Note that I was not prompted when I went back about an hour later, so something is messed up in the system that can give this result at times.PC

What should I do if the Access Code when logging in isn't working?
It was not a true error, but one related to the general access problems at the time, at least in my case. It went away in about an hour and no code was needed.PC
