i sell things and know not to overestimate an items worth, which gives you more potenial buyers. ive sold tons of items and not once did i ever say to anyone "offer?"
i always give a price and i accept counter offers.
This is an interesting topic. I've only posted an "ad," if you will, to sell an item once and it got lots of negativity because I posted the price straight out in the offer. It was definitely on the high end of the pricing I had seen a couple days before for comparable items, (motif books), but frankly, I actually did need it but at the time I was willing to part with it to get more bank space.
On the other hand, I have sold a number of things to people who have mentioned in chat that they needed to buy things and I pretty much always ask them how much they are offering. I do this not so I can overcharge them, but because, generally, I haven't bothered to think how much it a thing is worth to me in terms of gold. And when I do, I tend to think on the high end because I'm a hoarder who doesn't like to part with anything of value. You never know when you might need it yourself. So to spare us both the annoyance of my asking for a price that is obscenely high because I have some protective psychosis about my items, I just think about whether what a person wants to pay is fair enough. The simple fact is, for me, nothing is sitting in my inventory waiting to be sold, but if I see someone needs something, knowing how it is to need stuff that simple can't be gathered with any regularity, I try to help out.
Sort of edit: Twice, I did the ad thing twice but I don't remember the wood ad. I don't think anyone bought it, but meh, it wasn't that pressing, I was just annoyed with my wood at the time.
